Dear Tubman Families,
We had a wonderful week of learning last week!
We showed such great spirit on Friday's soccer jersey day!
This is a busy week! On Monday, we start with Open House. Adult caregivers should remember to RSVP. On Thursday, we have Picture Day, our Food Distribution, and our PTA Fall Festival in the evening.

Open House
Our open house is tomorrow, Monday, October 14th!
- 9:00-10:00: Come for our parent breakfast, hear updates from school administration, and attend our volunteer orientation. All parents intending to volunteer this year should be sure to attend.
- 10:00-12:00: Spend the remainder of the morning engaged in learning with your child.

Fall Festival: October 17
Excel Beyond the Bell-Elementary (EBBE)
EBBE is our amazing after school program, with our partnership with Montgomery County Recreation Department! EBBE supports enrichment and academic support! Students engage in a wide variety of activities.
Students in grades 2, 3, 4, and 5 can attend the program Monday-Friday until 6 pm. Registration started with student referrals for the past two weeks. Now, registration is open for any interested student in grades 2-5.
An afternoon meal is provided for all students at dismissal. Transportation is provided, in the evening, for students who normally ride a bus.
Register Now for Oct. 26 Game Changer Conference
The Game Changer Conference will be held from 8 a.m.–noon on Saturday, Oct. 26, at the Montgomery College, Germantown Campus, Globe Hall, 20200 Observation Drive, in Germantown.
This free mentoring conference is geared toward Black or African American and Latino or Hispanic male students in 4th through 12th grades. The conference theme is “The World is Shifting Forward! Focus Forward and Compete.
Parent workshops will also be held every half hour beginning at 8 a.m., with the last session at 11:30 a.m.
Students are encouraged to write and submit a 300-word essay based on the conference theme, “Being a Competitor is a Game Changer: How will you compete to win and own your future?” Essays are due by email on Monday, Oct. 21.

Many have asked what else the school needs in order to thrive. We appreciate your support! Below is our school's Amazon wish list. We are currently prioritizing outdoor and indoor recess games and equipment. When you purchase items, they are shipped directly to our school. Please share our list with your family and friends!
Community School Information
Money Matters Workshop for Spanish Speaking Families
In partnership with the Gaithersburg Financial Empowerment Center, the community schools in the Gaithersburg cluster are pleased to offer a “Money Matters” workshop for our Spanish speaking families. This workshop is a three-part stand alone series that will take place on October 13th, October 30th, and November 13th, from 6:00-8:00 pm at Gaithersburg Elementary School. Families will be provided with dinner and childcare and have the opportunity to earn up to $150 in gift cards for attending the sessions. Please register by scanning the QR code below.
Parent Education Program
The Parent Education Program Family Resiliency Program is a FREE 8-week online program for MCPS parents and care providers who want to learn strategies to better support teens and children (PreK to 12th grade). This program will be available to Spanish speaking families at our school starting on October 17th.
All classes are on zoom, Thursdays from 7:00-8:30 pm
The classes will be entirely in Spanish
Anyone who takes 5 or more classes and completes the evaluation receives a $50 gift card! (one per household/family)

Join us Thursday, October 17 for the Tubman Fall Festival
Please join us for the first-ever Tubman Tigers PTA Fall Festival on Thursday, October 17, from 5:30-7:00 PM on the HTES blacktop. Free crafts, activities and refreshments, raffles and door prizes! Food for sale from local businesses.

Sign up to volunteer to help with set up or during the event. We are looking for volunteers during the day to pick up pumpkins and fall decorations and help out with set up and in the evening to help with activities during the event and clean up.
Book Fair Update
We are excited to share that thanks to our volunteers and teachers, all classes were able to visit the book fair. The PTA raised $2000 to support our Tubman Community and 150 students received a free book from the fair.

Join MCCPTA chapter of NAACP’s Black and Brown Coalition for Educational Equity and Excellence (BBC) Townhall
with MCPS Superintendent Dr. Thomas Taylor on Wednesday, October 23, 2024 @ 6-8pm (doors will open at 5:30pm) at Wheaton HS auditorium (12401 Dalewood Drive, Silver Spring, MD 20906).
