In case you missed it, Thursday, January 9th was National Law Enforcement Appreciation Day. Thank you to all members of our law enforcement for keeping us safe! A special THANK YOU to our School Resource Officer, Deputy Anderson! If you have ever dropped off your child in the morning, you have likely seen him out front greeting students. We are fortunate to have Deputy Anderson support our students and schools!

Believe it or not, conferences are right around the corner! Be on the lookout for communication coming around January 22nd for winter conference registration.

This year’s theme is inspired by our guest author and his message about kindness and doing the right thing. Read to Round the Bases will feature exciting activities throughout I Love to Read Month, including student reading goals, a special guest author, a breakfast event, the Book Bowl, and more!

Join us as we celebrate and encourage the joy of reading all month long!

Joe Schmit is Coming to Westwood Elementary!

We’re thrilled to announce that Joe Schmit—author, award-winning KSTP broadcaster, community leader, and popular keynote speaker—will visit Westwood Elementary on February 6th!

During his visit, Joe will inspire our students with the power of kindness as he shares his book, The Right Thing To Do: The Joe Mauer Story. Plus, he will personally autograph copies of the book you purchase!

Students that have qualified for the Book Bowl will compete at Westwood on February 27th! A list of books for the Book Bowl is available in our Media Center.

The Annual Westwood Valentines Dance, sponsored by our own Student Council, will be held on Friday, February 7th.

Please consider volunteering for this event. Volunteers will receive FREE ADMISSION to the dance. Your student however will not...they still have to purchase a ticket if they plan to attend. Please review the available slots and sign up on Signup Genius!

• Printed copies of our updated Choice Boards will be sent home soon. Choice boards allow students to engage in eLearning activities in the event school is canceled due to inclement weather. More info including digital copies can be found here.
• Attendance- Strive for 7 or few absences for the 2024-25 school year! We understand that throughout the year, students become ill which requires them to stay home. As a part of our compliance to inform families and support positive attendance, we send notifications home to families when their child's illness totals 10 days of ill absence or more.
• Snow is back on the ground! Please help your child remember their gear. They need snowpants and boots to play off of the blacktop when snow covers the ground or equipment. Linked here are our clothing guidelines!
• READ! Create a family routine where your child has dedicated time to read or you read to them for 20 minutes each night!
