From the Principal's Desk
Final Note from Mrs. Farmer
It is with mixed emotions that I write to share some important news with you. After much reflection, I have decided to accept a new position with Otsego Public Schools, and my last day as Principal of Max Larsen Elementary will be August 30.
Serving as the principal of Max Larsen Elementary has been one of the greatest privileges of my professional career. I am deeply grateful for the support, trust, and collaboration I have experienced from our students, families, and staff. The growth and achievements we’ve accomplished together have been truly inspiring, and I will always cherish the memories and the sense of community we’ve built.
During the transition period, our dedicated administration and school staff will ensure that the school continues to provide the exceptional education and support that our students deserve. The school district is actively seeking a new principal, and I am confident that the selection process will result in a leader who will continue to build upon the positive momentum we have established.
Please know that my decision to leave was not made lightly. However, I believe this new opportunity will allow me to continue growing professionally and to take on new challenges. I am excited for what the future holds, but I will miss being a part of this incredible school community.
Thank you for your unwavering support and partnership throughout my tenure. It has been an honor to work with such a dedicated group of families, and I look forward to hearing about the continued success of Max Larsen and its students.
Should you have any questions or need further information during this transition, please feel free to reach out to the school office.
Warmest regards,
Mrs. Farmer

Message from Mrs. Breza
Hello Parents of Max Larsen Students:
My name is Mrs. Breza and I am your child’s music teacher. In the first week of school we will practice classroom routines. Those routines are necessary for creating a learning environment for children.
In addition to routines, we will be practicing our singing voices to extend our vocal range highs and lows. Keeping a steady beat and echo singing are our first music goals of the year..
I am looking forward to a fabulous school year teaching your children.
Musically,
Mrs. Breza

Message from Mrs. Tubbs
The staff at Max Larsen are excited to welcome you to a new school year filled with opportunities to learn and engage! To make sure your child benefits as much as possible from their school experience, your child needs to show up every day whenever possible. Even in the early grades, children who are absent too many days miss out on lessons, social activities and friendships.
Did you know that showing up on time every day is important to your child’s success and learning from Young Five’s forward? Missing 10% of school (1 or 2 days every few weeks) can make it harder to:
• Gain early reading and math skills.
• Build relationships.
• Develop good attendance habits.
Making school a priority has many benefits!
• The routines your child develops will continue throughout school.
• Make the most of early grades by encouraging your child to attend every day
Some absences may be unavoidable because of illness or other reasons. Try not to let your child miss school unless absolutely necessary. If it is necessary for your child to miss school, please call the office (517-279-5960) to notify us.
Message from Ms. Sawyer
Hi, My name is Denise Sawyer and I am the reading interventionist at Max Larsen. My job is to support students and staff in the area of reading. I am a Central Michigan graduate and earned my Masters in Reading from Western Michigan University. This is my 31st year working for Coldwater Community Schools. I was a first, fourth and fifth grade teacher before I became a reading specialist. I have two children, Sam and Lily, Sam is a sophomore at Adrian College and Lily is a senior at Quincy High School. When I am not at school you can find me anywhere near the water. I love to be outdoors and enjoy gardening, swimming, biking and snow skiing. When I am indoors, you most definitely will catch me with a book in my hand! I am looking forward to meeting many of you throughout the school year. If you have any questions about your child’s reading success, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.
Message from Mrs. Machan
Hi Everyone!
This is Mrs. Machan. I am the EL teacher at Max Larsen and I teach our multi-language learners. If your family speaks multiple languages at home, your child may come to work with me or one of our EL paraprofessionals. We work with students to support their academic vocabulary through listening, speaking, reading and writing. You will occasionally see updates from me in the school newsletter with a short description of some of the skills we have been working on in class and ways to help at home. The ideas/games to practice at home are great for all students to try. If you ever have any questions, please feel free to send me an email at machrr@ccscards.org. I am looking forward to a wonderful school year:)
