Vision for Instruction
Recent research has followed the "voice and choice" model I first noticed in Eric Jensen's Poor Students, Rich Teaching (2016), a great book with a clear message. One of the main tenets of the research was allowing our students autonomy over their decisions and thus resulting in decreased stress and better outcomes. The more we allow freedom, voice, and choice, the more likely our students will use their whole brains and work independently.
Since Jensen's work the Michigan City Area Schools strategic plan included "Voice and Opportunities" in its second of five pillars. It is clear the more we guide and encourage, the more independent our learners become.
I hope you will consider this idea as you go into your next instructional session: The more we relinquish control to our learners over their academic journey, the more efficient their path will become.

Can Drive
We're in competition with Joy Elementary for the highest number of cans donated. I think we can beat them. We'll need at least 1,000 to be competitive but we have all the programs at AK Smith to help out.
TABE Webinar December 19th
I encourage you to take part in the webinar on December 19th. You can click the image to register. The new TABE may be more difficult than the previous ones. Knowing how to interpret results can give students the best chance of passing the HSE and help us direct our instructional efforts.
We can pay your hourly wage for attending the workshop. Please make sure to note the event on your time sheet.
The December 2nd session has closed already.
