SUMMER TERM - 13TH JUNE 2024
Message from the Head of School
Wow, what a week we have had at Hampton Infant School!
53 members of our HPP parent community volunteered to come in to speak to our children about their career as part of our Aspirations week. The message is if you dream big and work hard enough, you can achieve your dreams.
Each day we have had a number of amazing parents come in and speak to us, some in the Hall as a school and some in classrooms. Some of you have surprised yourself with how nerve racking it can be talking to a large group of children but it was worth it! Our children have taken so much away with them and they have asked some really thoughtful and insightful questions.
On Wednesday EYFS had a visit from Little Sherwood Farm and tomorrow we have an Author visit from Kim Hillyard. Two careers our children could aspire to achieve.
Nursery and Reception dressed up as what they would like to be when they are older today and we can’t wait to see KS1 dress up tomorrow.
We look forward to our Sports events next week for all year groups. We are having an opening ceremony to rival the Olympics Monday morning where all year groups will parade out and walk through our arch. All children have made torches and each class has made a flag. Thank you to HISNA for providing all the craft resources.
Teachers are looking forward to meeting their new classes for next year Monday 1st of July. Please be assured that we think very carefully about transition and there will be lots of discussions in school and visits to the new year group following our moving up day. Please help your children to discuss the change ahead with positivity and excitement.
We are planning to send out welcome emails to parents and carers from Arbor tomorrow, so please look out for this and log in, as we will be using Arbor to send out communication to parents going forward. The email will come directly from Arbor. We will also send out a ParentHub when we have sent out the Arbor welcome email, which will contain instructions on what you need to do.
Have a lovely weekend

Sensory Garden at HISN
When the new nursery was built we were very fortunate to have a space created to develop into a sensory garden for the children to enjoy. Using funding from HISNA we were able to buy some planters, mirrors, sensory resources, a bubble machine and a pergola arch too. Thank you HISNA for the kind donation.
Mrs Sula, who works in RK, has also been working hard with a group of children to develop the sensory garden. She has sourced plants and tyres and small world resources to create a space that is calm and inviting for all children to enjoy. Thank you for your hard work Mrs Sula nurturing the plants, creating a herb garden and spending so much time with the children weeding and watering. The garden is blossoming and the children love spending time in this space.
If you would like to donate any flowers or resources to help further enhance this space we would appreciate any of the following:
Bright and colourful flowering plants
Lavender
Mint
Rosemary

🟨 Nursery
What another busy and fun week we have had in Nursery! All this week we have been very lucky to have some special visitors come in to talk about their jobs. It has been really interesting learning about the different roles you can have when you start working. We have also been thinking carefully about what we are interested in and what job we might like to have when we grow up. We enjoyed a dress up day and wore a costume to reflect the job we think we would like to have when we grow up. We also drew a picture of ourselves doing the job we are interested in.
We also had a real farm come to our school and we got to meet so many amazing animals. We got to meet the farmer, a very friendly and helpful lady called Karina who told us all about the animals she had brought along. We got to meet pigs, sheep, chickens, a friendly dog, a pony, goats, a soft and cuddly rabbit and a beautiful guinea pig too. We got to go inside the pen and stroked the animals and heard them communicating with us through their various noises. We got to brush the fur of some of the animals and we saw them eating their special food too. We were very gentle with the animals and e all got a turn inside the pen if we wanted to and there was a tray for the smaller animals where we could stroke them if we wanted to. We had so much fun!
Nursery sports events will take place on Thursday 20th June
AM Nursery Sports Event 10.30am
PM Nursery Sports Event 2.30pm
Children should come in their P.E. kits.
Time to talk Nursery
We all know how important talking at home is for exposing children to a wide range of vocabulary and ideas. This all helps them with their reading and to become future writers. Each week we will share an idea with you for 'talk homework' with your child.
We have loved 'aspiration week' in school where we have been learning about different jobs you can have when you grow up. At home please talk about what job you do and discuss the possible jobs your child could have when they grow up.
🟥 Reception
This week is 'Aspirations Week!' We have had lots of visitors talking about their jobs and we have enjoyed learning about their different roles. We talked about what we wanted to be when we grow up and discussed how we can be anything we want to be if we put our mind to it. We dressed up as what we want to be when we grow up and did lots of exciting activities.
Reception were very excited to welcome the farm this week. The children got to stroke lambs, pigs, goats, a pony, rabbits, guinea pigs and a dog. We also saw some chickens. They even got to give the animals a brush. We had lots of fun!
In Maths, we have been looking at more than and less than (fewer) and have been using different resources to identify which groups have more and which have fewer. We have been trying to use our subitizing skills so we don't have to count the objects each time.

🟦 Year 1
We have had great fun during this ‘Aspiration Week’, and been thoroughly spoilt with all of our amazing assemblies. We have enjoyed learning about so many different career options and can’t wait to dress up in our own ‘aspirational’ outfits. Thank you to all of the parents who have kindly given up their time to support this initiative this week – it’s been amazing!
In PE, we have been learning to problem solve and work together as a team. We have been using our communication skills effectively in order to think of the best strategies to complete a range of activities and play games.
In English, we have continued with our focus on fairy-tales, looking this week at the story of the ‘Three Little Pigs’. We identified the features of fairy-tales and discussed their origins, before acting out the story and thinking of actions to help us remember the sequence of the tale. We have also spent some time this week recapping expanded noun phrases, using this knowledge to write descriptions for the big bad wolf.
In Design and Technology, we have made a fun start to our new topic, ‘mechanisms’. We have been looking at how we can use sliders and levers to make moving picture scenes, creating our backgrounds ready for our own moving picture based on the fairy-tale, ‘The Three Little Pigs’, we have been learning about in English.
We have continued looking at the concept of fractions in maths this week. We have been finding and making quarters of various objects and shapes, as well as using our knowledge of splitting a whole into four equal parts to find a quarter of a quantity.
We have continued on our journey through the United Kingdom this week in geography, naming each country, locating it on a map, and identifying their flags, before colouring these correctly and matching them to their corresponding country.
In science, we have been learning about minibeasts and their microhabitats. We learnt about the different places minibeasts like to live, before going outside to create our very own bug hotels. We thought about which minibeasts we would like to have in our microhabitats, and used natural objects which would attract them. We had great fun and hope the minibeasts like them too!
Year 1 sports afternoon will take place on Tuesday 18th June 1:45-2:45pm, children should come to school in P.E. kit. We hope to see you there.
🟩 Year 2
What a fantastic aspirational week we've had in year 2. We've been amazed at all the wonderful jobs we've learnt about. In year two we've had some extra visits from some of our parents including a lawyer, pharmacist, interior designer and a radiographer. We've thoroughly enjoyed hearing about all these different careers and talked lots about what we might like to do when we grow up. We can't wait to dress up tomorrow to show off all our aspirations.
We have continued learning about the nation of Brunei in Geography. We used maps to explore where Brunei is in Asia and looked at a tiny water settlement called Kampong Ayer. We found it fascinating how a community has built their lives in the Brunei River and had lots of questions we want to find out about life there. We asked insightful questions about how people go shopping, make their way to school or work and what happens if the river floods? We look forward to finding out more about Kampong Ayer over the next few weeks.
In PE we have been practicing some of our events for Sports Afternoon next week.
Year 2 sports afternoon will take place on Monday 17th June 1:45-2:45. We hope to see you there.
