Hardworking
Hardworking Spartan, Beach Volleyball showed up early on Saturday morning at Rosie's Beach in Long Beach to compete. Their collaborative hard work continuously improves their progress.
Uplifting
Uplifting Spartan PTSA prepared "Thank You Bags" for our volunteers for Career Day. Thank you for creating an uplifting, welcoming school culture for our volunteers so that they can positively inspire our Schurr Spartans. Thank you for your uplifting support.
Responsible
Responsible Spartan, it pays to be responsible. If you buy your yearbook in March, you pay $75. If you buy it in April, you pay $80. If you wait until May, you will pay $90. The earlier you buy your yearbook, the more money you save. It pays to be responsible.

SCHURR Expectation of the Month: Hardworking
“I learned the value of hard work by working hard.”
-Margaret Mead
Attendance Rate: Our latest attendance rate was 95.41%. Woo-hoooo!!!! That's two consecutive weeks over 95%. Please continue to go out of your way to show your students your supportive, uplifting spirit. Let's work hard to keep our attendance rate above 95%, our school safe, and our spirit positive. Please greet students with your uplifting Spartan Spirit and engaging 4Cs learning environments. Remind them that they are loved at Schurr. Thank you all for making Schurr special.
AVID's Annual Door Decorating Contest: AVID Club will judge participating doors on March 28th. The winning class gets a carne asada nacho party. May the best door win.
Grades: Our 3rd Quarter ended last Friday, March 21. 4th Quarter started today. Continue critically thinking, collaborating, and working hard. We know you will do great the rest of the semester.
Phone Confiscation: Please inform students that we are confiscating phones from students if they are tardy and/or truant during instructional time using their phones. Thank you for your support.
Programming: Our counselors will meet one-on-one with our incoming 9th grade students at EAI and MAI this week. They will be off campus Tuesday (MAI) and Wednesday (EAI).
SBAC Mathematics (April 8 - April 11): Our 11th graders will be taking the Math SBAC in two weeks. We intentionally gave our 11th graders two weeks off so that they can rest up for the Mathematics SBAC. There will be a block schedule so that 9th, 10th, and 12th graders have time to complete assignments, essays, and/or tests. Thank you for your collaborative support and understanding. We will follow our current Block Schedule:
- Tuesday, April 8, Periods 1, 2, 3
- Wednesday, April 9, Periods 4, 5, 6
- Thursday, April 10, Periods 1, 2, 3
- Friday, April 11, Periods 4, 5, 6
Tardy Sweeps: Please remind students that we conduct random tardy sweeps. Please remind them that we will take our "cell phone" boxes to confiscate phones during our tardy sweeps moving.
Spartan Spirit
Gratitude: Thank you to everyone for creating a supportive, uplifting school culture. Last week, our 11th graders took the English Language Arts SBAC. Teachers, thank you for integrating literacy through critical thinking, collaboration, and communication so that our students can continue demonstrating their critical literacy skills in English Language Arts. A huge thank you in particular to our 11th Grade ELA teachers (Carrie Cunningham, Sandra Gutierrez, Kimberly Hamilton, Valerie Ilizaliturri, and Marina Martinez-Smith) for preparing our students to excel on the SBAC this year.
Gratitude: Thank you to Schurr's NTN Team (Jeannette Alvarado, Carlos Avila, Baltazar Mejia, Nare Movsisyan, Jonathan Tuthill, and Eduardo Viramontes) for their critical thinking, collaboration, and communication as they created and coordinated Schurr's 2nd Annual Career Day.
Gratitude: Thank you to all our staff for accommodating Career Day on Monday, March 24th. From changing parking spots to opening your classes to career volunteers to creating a safe, positive learning culture for our volunteers, you all helped make Career Day a success. Thank you for your support.
Gratitude: Thank you to our students, staff, and community for completing the LCAP surveys. 78.8% of our students completed the LCAP. We appreciate your support sharing your perspective of how we can continuously improve the education at Schurr that empowers students to achieve academic excellence as model citizens.
Gratitude: Thank you to Lulu Arregui, Mar Canizares, and Cristina Ulloa for going to EAI and MAI to assess students in Spanish so that future Spartans can take advanced classes (Honors Spanish 3-4 and AP Spanish Language) earlier in their high school careers. We appreciate your support.
Gratitude: Thank you to all our Custodial Crew for continuing to keep our school clean and hygienic. We appreciate the additional work you put in to keep our restrooms clean and orderly.
Gratitude: Thank you to our five counselors--Alma Aguilar, Bea DelaRosa, Denise Quan, Alma Quintero, and Lilia Rosas--for their collaborative hard work, supportive critical thinking, and uplifting communication as they guide Schurr's future Spartans to select the classes that will challenge them and create ideal college and career opportunities.
Gratitude: Thank you to Schurr's Designated ELD teachers for supporting with ELPAC testing during February. Thank you to Jeannette Alvarado, Crystal Banda, Karen Clarke, Linda Chu, Vanessa Favela, Debby Ferguson, Valerie Ilizaliturri, Eric Robles, Daen Valencia, Jolene Sekijima, and Ami Szerencse for your collaborative support and hard work. We appreciate all you do differentiate instruction and uplift our English Learners so that they continue progressing.
Gratitude: Thank you for supportively greeting students and each other when you first interact. That small moment can make a student's and person day. A "hello, ____" or "good morning, ____" goes a long way to create a safe, positive learning culture. Thank you for your uplifting Spartan spirit.
Gratitude: Thank you for continuing to hand out Spartan Bucks to students who are showing Schurr values and expectations (Supportive, Courageous, Hardworking, Uplifting, Responsible, and Respectful) and the 4Cs (Critical Thinker, Collaborator, Communicator, and Creator).
