It's Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week across Ontario. A safe and accepting learning environment is essential for student achievement and well-being. This is why we strive to ensure Limestone schools are inclusive and are physically, culturally, and emotionally safe and free from bullying, violence, harassment and discrimination. Ontario has designated this week as Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week to help promote safe schools and a positive learning environment. Everyone has a responsibility to stop bullying. We encourage everyone – students, parents, guardians, educators – to get involved with bullying prevention. Below in this newsletter, you can read more about Cyberbullying and there is information about the difference between teasing and bullying. Bullying prevention and awareness is on-going, but this week highlights our need to keep the conversation open.
We will end our Bullying Awareness and Prevention week on Friday with Pink Shirt Day. Everyone is encouraged to wear pink on Friday to show their commitment to taking a stand against bullying and to advocate for kindness.

Volleyball Action over the Weekend!
In Volleyball action this weekend, the Senior Girls’ team participated in the annual FSS tournament. Being placed in a tough breakfast didn’t stop the team from playing some of their best volleyball of the season, tying two matched and taking a set from a highly-ranked Loughborough A team.
The team has seen immense improvement in their serving and passes skills and look to be a good position heading into their Division One Tournament on Nov. 30th.
Way to go, Wildcats!
Bullying Awareness and Prevention Week 2023
Cyberbullying
https://www.prevnet.ca/cyberbullying
As part of Bullying Awareness Week, we wanted to highlight cyberbullying.
What is Cyberbullying?
- Sending mean and sometimes threatening emails or text messages.
- Spreading gossip, secrets or rumours about another person that will damage that person’s reputation.
- Breaking into an email account and sending hurtful materials to others under an assumed identity.
- Creating blogs or websites that have stories, cartoons, pictures or jokes ridiculing others.
- Creating polling websites where visitors are asked to rate individuals’ attributes in a negative manner.
- Taking an embarrassing photo of someone with a digital camera and emailing that photo to others.
- Engaging someone in instant messaging, tricking them into revealing personal information and then forwarding that information to others.
- Using someone else’s password in order to change their profile to reflect sexual, racist and other content that may offend others.
- Posting false or hurtful messages on online bulletin boards or in chat rooms.
- Deliberately excluding others from instant messaging and email contact lists.
Please visit the website above to read more about the impact of cyberbullying and how families can help their children.
Pink Shirt Day - Friday, November 24
Limestone will recognize Friday, November 24, 2023, as a district-wide Pink Shirt Day.
There are several “Pink Shirt Days” in the calendar year claimed by different groups, but this Pink Shirt Day on November 24 is a Limestone initiative. Of course, our bullying prevention and awareness efforts need to be occurring daily, but the designated week allows us to focus attention to this issue.
You can wear your pink shirt to the Fronts game!
Lice Prevention
Anyone can get lice, but it’s more common in children because they are often in close contact playing together. Having head lice doesn’t mean that your child is not clean. Head lice are tiny insects that live on the scalp and can cause itching. They do not spread disease and therefore are not a public health concern. There is no medical reason for your child to be excluded from school or childcare for having head lice. For tips on what to do if your child has head lice visit the Canadian Paediatric Society website.
Here is a helpful video about how to find lice: https://myhealth.alberta.ca/alberta/Pages/how-to-treat-head-lice.aspx
