Dear HBB Families,
Fall is certainly in the air here at HBB (thanks to Shulie for decorating the lobby and main office). This week was our opening kick-off for our school store, Husky Haven. Students arrived excited to see all of the new items they could exchange their tickets for. It was great to see all of the smiling faces as they made their selections. A special thank you goes out to our volunteers for donating their time to make this happen. Please note this amazing tradition continues due to our amazing PTA and the generous parent donations received!! Be sure to reach out to the PTA if you are willing/wishing to contribute.
This week also marks Custodian Appreciation Week. Mr. Andy, Mr. Robbie and Mr. Stephen are truly the best! They take great pride in their work and are a huge part of making HBB the amazing place it is; if you see them, please join us in thanking them for all of the work they do on behalf of our students and staff. Thank you to the PTA and all the parent donations that came in to make the custodians feel appreciated! They surprised the custodians with an air fryer for their office, a huge appreciation sign, tons of snacks and drinks and will be buying them lunch!
October is a very busy month with several exciting things happening. Be on the lookout for upcoming information regarding our new positive office referrals process as well as information regarding the after school clubs sponsored by our PTA.
I am aware that conversations have occurred regarding celebrations and whether or not costumes will be permitted on October 31st. Please note students are allowed to wear costumes on Thursday, October 31st; however, it is not mandatory. On October 31st we will still participate in our daily lessons and will be following our regular daily routine, so when choosing an outfit please consider warmth, comfort, etc.
All costumes must adhere to the guidelines of our dress code as well as the following parameters:
1. please no masks
2. please no hand-held accessories (ie. wands, swords, pom-pom etc.)
3. please no face paint
4. please no candy, treats, or sweets are permitted
Finally, a warm and prosperous "Shanah tovah" to our families celebrating the high holiday of Rosh Hashanah this week.
Regards,
Have a great weekend-
Regards,
Ron Sanborn
Husky Haven is our school store, where students can spend the tickets they've earned by being "Burkland's Best"! Husky Haven runs on a three week rotation and is the first 3 Wednesday's of each month and students who have tickets and an interest in shopping can go to Husky Haven during their assigned week at recess time!
Please be reminded of the following:
Drop off - Morning drop off is between 8:40 and 8:50am and is a rolling drop off. If you arrive before the doors open at 8:40am, please make sure your students stay in your vehicle until the doors open and drop off beings. Please also be advised that there is absolutely NO IDLING and all vehicles must be TURNED OFF!! The Middleborough Police Department will be enforcing this rule.
Walkers - The school doors do not open until 8:40am, therefore, all walkers should not be arriving to school prior to 8:40am, as there are no adults available to supervise your children until that time. Administration will be contacting the parents of walker students who are continuously arriving before school opens.
Pick up - The back gates open for afternoon pick up prior to school ending so please keep this in mind while you are waiting for pick ups to begin at 3:20pm, as it can be quite distracting for the students in the classrooms facing the back of the school. Please stay in your car until the doors open for pick up and please, NO IDLING!! The Middleborough Police Department will be enforcing these rules.
Thank you for your help in these matters!!

Social Emotional Screener
Dear MPS Families,
From October 7th to October 18th, students in grades 3-11 will participate in an online survey designed to encourage self-reflection on their mindsets and learning approaches. The valuable insights gathered from these surveys will help us continue enhancing our support strategies across the district. For students in PreK-2, teachers will complete a "Teacher Perception Screener" in place of the student survey.
This screening process has been instrumental in helping us identify a range of social and emotional needs throughout the district. The data we gather not only allows us to provide targeted support for individual students but also informs and expands district-wide programming aimed at enhancing overall student well-being.
All the questions that will be presented are available for review on our Middleborough Public Schools website here starting September 30th. 2024.
If you would prefer that your child not participate in this screener, please complete the Opt-Out Form. If you have multiple students, please opt out for each child individually. Additionally, if you have opted your child out of a screener in the past, please submit the opt-out form again to confirm your preference for this year. Even if you've submitted a letter to the school this year, we kindly ask that you complete the form to ensure accurate records.
We sincerely appreciate your ongoing support for your students and our schools.
Best regards,
Thank you,
Kevin Avitabile
