No School for Students Thursday, December 5th: Parent Teacher Conferences
A Message From Mrs. O'Shaughnessy
I hope everyone had a wonderful Thanksgiving. I definitely took the time to connect with family, and to recharge as well! The next three weeks are packed! Holidays always create a more hectic schedule, but please remember to take care of yourself, and enjoy each moment.
This past week, our school was buzzing with families, just how we like it! Families had the opportunity to join their child and their class in an activity or celebration. It has been a long time coming, with so many guidelines in place for so long. We also joined together on Saturday, for Ms. Prinzevalli's first Fun Run! An amazing ending to this filled November.
When we return on Monday, it will be December 2nd, the last month of 2024. The next 14 days of school for the month not only are filled with many events, but with the end of our first semester. Parent teacher conferences are held on Thursday, December 5th. This is such an important time to discuss your child's progress with their teachers. With two more semesters for the school year, it is vital that the school-home communication supports each students growth. Don't forget to make your appointment with not only your child's classroom teacher, but with their related service providers (speech, PT, OT, guidance, adaptive PE), their reading interventionalist (Ms. Lomaga and Ms. Menkes), and their specials teachers (Mr. Dumont, Mr. DeCastro, Ms. Corniel, Mr. Tripotseris, Ms. Fogarty and Mr. Nolan).
Please see below how to access your child's report card.
Have a wonderful week!

Thanksgiving Celebrations
It was so great seeing our classes celebrate Thanksgiving together! And it was fabulous seeing so many parents in our classrooms celebrating as well! Thanksgiving is a wonderful time for joining both the school community and the families. And the food! Thank you to our teachers, and our families for creating wonderful celebrations and welcoming the families.

Early morning runs aren't easy. Ms. Prinzevalli and Ms. Hartman host running club at 7am in the morning, and their student athletes show up ready to train. This is impressive, as we all know that getting up early and working out is not easy! These student athletes showed their commitment even more this weekend when they woke in these cold temperatures, on a holiday weekend, laced up their shoes and hit the ground running! This one mile run (four times around the block, finishing on our brand new track) was amazing! What a great event for the athletes, the families and the staff. Thank you to Ms. Prinzevalli and Ms. Hartman for sharing your passion with the students.

Outdoor Recess
Many families have questions about outdoor recess during the winter months. Below is the policy that all New York City Schools must follow. Please note that students do not remain outside for an entire period, as they share a lunch period with another grade. Students benefit from fresh air, and the opportunity to move after being in class.
Guidance for Outdoor Play in Cold Weather
Children benefit from vigorous exercise and should be given the opportunity to play outside whenever possible. Unless it is snowing, there is ice on the playground, or the wind chill factor produces an effective temperature below zero degrees Fahrenheit (-18 degrees Celsius), temperature alone should not be a barrier to outdoor play.
When outdoors, please ensure that your students and staff cover exposed skin, wear warm clothing, and use multiple layers to maintain warmth. Students who need to avoid the cold weather for medical reasons must submit a note from their healthcare provider to the school nurse.
We Want To Celebrate With You
With all of the upcoming holidays, as well as others this year, we want to know what your family celebrates! Some celebrate Hanukkuh, some Christmas, others Kwanzaa, but what does your family celebrate. Please share with us some of your family traditions so our Social Justice Committee can highlight and represent everyone. Click on the link below to share.
