A Note From the Principal
Hello River Hawk Families,
What an incredible week we've had! Tuesday, Choir put on a fabulous performance, Wednesday our NJHS members were inducted for the 23-24 school year, Thursday our 8th graders had a blast at Universal, and Friday ended the week with an outstanding performance by our bands and guitar classes. *Pics & info for Universal & Band will be in next weeks' issue.
This week, please be sure you take a look at the textbook collection information. While it's a repeat, the collection is this week and we want to be sure your student gets everything cleared before yearbook distribution day and any end of the year activities. Outstanding debts can keep students from participating and/or receiving their yearbook. Additionally, 8th grade Block Party tickets are now being sold on-line, as well as in-person, until sold out. Be sure to look at some UPDATED information in that section of the newsletter.
Finally, if your student competed in the All JH Track Meet, be sure to see the article on final standings with some more pictures from that great event!

Lost and Found to be DONATED soon!
Every day we put out the lost and found for students to get their belongings before the end of the school year. Any unclaimed items will be donated June 5th. Please have students look, esp. at the windows (pictured below) for lost water bottles. Many of these are expensive refillable bottles. Parents please call the office to arrange a time if you'd like to look prior to June 5th, so someone can help you. Note: the hanging rack and table are pulled out every day and water bottles stay in the window until claimed.
National Junior Honor Society (NJHS) Ceremony
Students and parents packed our gymnasium Wednesday evening to celebrate the accomplishments of of our NJHS members. NJHS recognizes students who have demonstrated excellence in the program's five pillars: Leadership, Scholarship, Service, Citizenship, and Character. Students must maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.7 or higher throughout the year and give at least 10 hours of community service in order to apply and maintain membership in NJHS. Congratulations to all of our incredible NJHS Scholars!
Annual Spring Choir Concert
This past Tuesday evening, our talented Choir put on their annual spring concert and did an incredible job serenading the audience with classic and current songs. Our award winning choir, led by Music Director/Teacher Mr. Gilbert, competed at Music in the Parks in Anaheim earlier this spring and took top honors again this year. Our Advanced and Jazz Choirs both took first place in the Junior High Category and our own Mercedes Nonemacher wowed audiences and placed as the overall Junior High Top Soloist for the entire competition. Mr. Gilbert, their families, and I are all very proud of them!
Clue - On Stage - Recap and Pictures
Last Thursday & Friday night, our Drama Hawks put on an incredible production of Clue - On Stage. These actors and actresses worked extremely hard and put on an amazing "who done it" show for audiences to enjoy. Congratulations to our Drama Hawks, Mr. Owston, and their families for all the hard work - it paid off!

Textbook Collection THIS WEEK!
This is a reminder that our students have textbooks and/or books checked out from our Rio Norte JHS Library. Our collection dates for ALL materials due back to the library are during the week of May 20th – May 24th. Students will return textbooks through their science classes.
With some exceptions, here are the textbooks your student should have checked out at home:
8th grade:
English – Collections 8
History – American Stories
Only Spanish I students: Spanish – Descubre 1
7th grade:
English – Collections 7
History – World History
Science – Life Science
Only Accelerated Math 7 students: Math Accelerated
*See the pictures below to see what the book covers look like.
It is important we receive these titles back at the end of the school year. Failure to return student’s materials during this time can result in loss of privileges at the end of the school year which include attending end of the year activities or events (yes, for 8th graders, too), not receiving the student’s yearbook on time, and this can even impact registering for high school.
For a full list of the titles checked out to your student, along with replacement costs if needed, please visit: bit.ly/destinyRN. Students can log in using their student Google email account to see what titles are outstanding on their account.
If you have any questions, please contact our Teacher Librarian at bgonsalves@hartdistrict.org. Thank you!
