TCS News to Know
For the Week of May 12, 2025
Dear Families,
It's Seniors' last week of school! It seems like just yesterday that we were kicking off the first day of the 2024-25 school year, and now we are in the final week of school for the Class of 2025! We are so proud of these students and we hope that they enjoy every moment of these final days of their last week of high school. On Friday, we will celebrate them with a final walk-through in their caps and gowns, through both the high school/middle school and elementary buildings. Then after graduation practice, they will hold their annual senior cookout. Congratulations to the Class of 2025 - your success is a testament to your strength, determination, and hard work!
Prom - "A Royal Ball"
The Tekonsha Jr/Sr Prom was held on Saturday, May 10th at the beautiful Wagner Ballroom in downtown Marshall! Students enjoyed checking out the Eastend Gallery before heading up to the third floor ballroom. The junior class was fortunate to not need a lot of decorations, as the ornately hand painted walls and crystal chandeliers set the mood for their theme of "A Royal Ball." Thank you to Jr. Class Advisor Mrs. Groholske and all of the students and chaperones for making this a memorable evening for all involved!

Elementary Spring Sing
The Elementary Spring Sing was held on Thursday, May 8 at 2 pm in the HS gym, and it was a great turnout of family and friends to celebrate our elementary music program. Music teacher, Mrs. Ashley Hall put together a fun program based on the book Giraffes Can't Dance by Giles Andreae. The program included a variety of fun songs, performed with enthusiasm by students in grades K-4. Third grade students opened the program with a rhythm performance on bongo drums, and the fourth grade accompanied a couple of the songs with ukuleles. The instruments showcased in the program were purchased with grant funding from an MDE K-5 Music Grant and the Marshall Community Foundation.
Air Zoo Adventure!
It was a fun day for our Tekonsha Elementary 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th graders on Friday, May 9th when they traveled to the Kalamazoo Air Zoo for their spring field trip! The Air Zoo is an Aerospace and Science Experience museum that offers a variety of hands on and informational exhibits, simulators, and rides. Students also enjoyed a personalized educational program as part of their visit. Thank you to our Tekonsha Elementary PTO for sponsoring this experience for our students!
T.E.A.M.work is the Best!
All year long, Tekonsha Community Schools has partnered with the Calhoun County Sheriff's Department to participate in their T.E.A.M. (Teaching, Educating, and Mentoring) school liaison program. As part of the program, Deputy Matthew Schimmel has come into our K-6 classrooms monthly to help teach about making schools and communities safer, promote responsible citizenship, and encourage positive character traits. On Thursday, May 8th, our students wrapped up their last visit with Deputy Schimmel by getting to have a tour of his patrol vehicle! Thank you to the Calhoun County Sheriff's Department and Deputy Schimmel for supporting our students and our school!
Girls on the Run
The Tekonsha Elementary Girls on the Run program has been active since March, not just running, but learning about building character, leadership, dedication, and community service. One component of the program involved the participants completing a community service project. The girls did random acts of kindness last week. The girls, along with their coaches Erin Hardy and Pat Shedd, left flowers on community members' doorsteps. If you were one of the lucky flower recipients, know that it came from our Girls on the Run students!
As they finish up their last week, they are excited for the Calhoun County Girls on the Run 5K happening this Saturday, May 17th, at Harper Creek High School. The race will start at 10 am, and is open to outside participants that can register on site the morning of the event. Prior to the race, beginning at 9 am, the GOTR participants will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of fun activities to prepare for the race! Good luck, girls!
