Stillwater Elementary School
Week of 9/5-9/9
From Principal Toleman
"The magic of new beginnings is truly the most powerful of all." (Josiyah Martin). Is there anything better than new beginnings? The opportunity to start something with fresh eyes, newfound excitement as well as some anticipation. September brings all of that as we bring our school community together for a new school year. As I begin my fourth year as the elementary principal at Stillwater, I think I am most excited about this year. We are coming off of 2 years of so many changes and unknownss into a school year that feels, well, AWESOME! One of the best parts of my day is welcoming the students into our building every morning with hugs, high fives and hellos. They are truly why we do what we do!
Some of you may have mixed feelings about the school year. It may be new for your child or you just love being home with them. I understand all those feelings, believe me! We will make sure their encounters in our building are positive and they always know they are wanted, welcome and loved!
As always, please contact me if you have any questions, concerns or just need to talk. Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend and I will see you all soon!
Respectfully,
Rebecca Toleman

UPK -5th grade students being dropped off will be done so outside of the South Quad, by the athletic fields. Please do not park your car. Students will be escorted into the building by one of our staff members.
Pick-Up: All students will need a note if they are parent pick up. We can not accept transportation changes after 2:30. Pick up for students in grades K-5 will take place by the kindergarten playground. Like drop off, you will remain in your car and the children will be brought out to you. Pick up begins at 3:05. Pick up for UPK students is in the same location as drop off.

I Am Amazing by Zuleka-Holder Young
Amazing Ayaan loves being a superhero--he helps a friend who has fallen on the playground, gives pushes on the swings, and offers a boost to those who need it at the rock wall.
But his fun is ruined when two of his friends tell him he doesn't seem like a superhero, and no one will take him seriously. But Ayaan doesn't completely lose his confidence. When he gets home from school, his Dad reminds him that anybody can be a superhero if you are helping others. And just like that, Ayaan dons his cape and mask. Amazing Ayaan to the rescue!

The Sour Grape by Pete Oswald
The Sour Grape holds grudges for every reason under the sun. Lime never returned a scarf they borrowed? Grudge! Orange never called back? Grudge! But when a friend holds a grudge against the Sour Grape without listening to an explanation, the Sour Grape realizes how unfair grudges can be. Could a bunch of forgiveness and compassion be enough to turn a sour grape sweet?
