On the 1st Day of Christmas
A Partridge In A Pear Tree
One the first day of Christmas My true love sent to me..
A partridge in a pear tree?!
Really, a bird in a tree? What does that really mean?
Well, I really wanted to know, so I started researching and this is what I found so far.
The partridge in a pear tree represents Jesus, the Son of God, whose birthday we celebrate on the first day of Christmas. Christ is symbolically presented as a mother partridge, a bird that will die to protect its young. ( According to the Lutheran Home Association)
Later it talks about how the picture of the partridge in the pear tree is also a reminder for us of the protection which Jesus our Savior gives to us. This is so well pictured in Psalm 91:4 “He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge”.
So I figure the Partridge, represents a motherly figure that is willing to sacrifice herself to protect her family. Sounds about right to me.
I never knew this, or the the meaning behind the song, the 12 days Days of Christmas.
You learn something new everyday. Or at least when you are out caroling and you actually can understand and know the meaning behind what it is you are actually singing.
Matthew 1:18 (Gods Words translation)
The birth of Jesus Christ took place in this way: His mother Mary had been promised to Joseph in marriage. But before they were married, Mary realized that she was pregnant by the Holy Spirit.
Have Hope
So I think it's safe to say, we all need our mothers, in one way or another, they were always there to take care of us. Gave us everything we needed to survive, they protected us and sacrificed a lot of their own lives for us. But let us not forget the main point, Christ was born on Christmas day, born of a virgin, and that never would have happened if it weren't for Mary's Unconditional love and willingness to trust her faith.
She would have given birth to the greatest person in the world, that would go on to doing great things for all of humanity. Giving us a Hope to believe in him, that he would help us in our greatest times of struggle, and our greatest times of growth.
Remember, things will always happen for a reason, and whatever that reason is teaches us to be better.
