Maintaining Accurate Records of Military & Civilians Working on Federal Property
People often ask "why do you need to know this information and didn't I already fill this out when I registered?" Both are good questions. We ask each year for families to update this information to ensure we, one, have accurate records because employment can change year to year; and two, becausing there is funding for districts and resources for families associated.
There are two ways we ask for this information because they are reported separately.
IMPACT AID: All families will receive an email asking if you are military or civilian personnel living or working on federal property. We ask everyone to respond. It takes just a minute to mark your status and send it back electronically. These funds are provided to school districts to compensate for local tax dollars that are lost as the result of non-taxable federal payrolls or properties. Last year we collected $358,508 to support student learning.
MILITARY CONNECTED: We ask parents/guardians to log into Skyward Family Access to update contact information and military status. This allows us to automatically update how to contact families. The military status of families is used in qualifying for DoDea Grant like the one we just received for $1.25 mil over the next five years. Also, we have two Military and Family Life Counselors (MFLCs) in our district. We could qualify for additional support if our military enrollment has increased.
Watch the video below to show how to access the RETURNING STUDENT FORMS tile in Family Access and update your information.
Reminder: Messaging Changes November 4
We are providing a few weeks' notice before message times change.
Starting November 4, messages will be sent home approximately one hour after school starts if a student did not arrive at school. Early communication is to encourage families to clear attendance using Family Access and ensure students arrive safely.
NOTE: If you notify the school of the absence prior to the message, it may not be cleared for up to 24 hours. You can disregard the message.
Review the instructions on how to report your absence in Skyward Family Access on the school website. Look for the Attendance Icon!
We want to keep all parents and guardians informed about district and school information. However, it can be overwhelming to get phone calls, emails and texts. You can manage your messages to fit your preference but access stored messages to review at a later date. If you block the emails or calls, you will not receive any future messages or emergency notifications.
Instead download the School Messenger App in Google Play Store or Apple App Store. You will be able to set preferences on which types of messages you want to receive and how. Check our website for details.
Reminder: Technology Fees
As a reminder, parent/guardians will see the $10 Assurance fee for all students in your InTouch online payment account. Please make payment online or at your school to clear your fee. Visit our website for the fee schedule.
Did you get your ballot?
The election is 11 days away. Remember to turn in your ballot at a Thurston County or Pierce County drop box before November 5 at 8pm depending on where you live. You can also use the postage paid envelope provided with your ballot. Be sure it is postmarked November 5. You can track your ballot by logging into votewa.gov.
