Statewide Testing
Oregon’s Statewide Assessment is coming up for students in grades 3-8 and 11, and works to provide students, families, and educators a measure of academic growth. These assessments are designed to allow your child to apply and demonstrate their knowledge in a variety of contexts. This helps our school evaluate our systems and identify areas of strength and improvement for our curriculum. Since the pandemic, we have had very limited opportunity to establish a baseline for our student’s abilities and needs, and the results of the Statewide Assessment allow us to develop this knowledge. Having this broad-range data is crucial to our understanding of what educational approaches are working, and where additional resources are needed.
YouthTruth Survey
In the Medford School District, a culture of feedback (and really listening!) is one of our most valued strategies to improve outcomes for your student(s). If we don’t know how we’re doing, how can we improve?!
Stay tuned for a survey called YouthTruth. In February, we will be asking for about 20 minutes of your time to complete the online survey that will help us improve school for your student(s). We have asked YouthTruth – a nonprofit organization that supports hundreds of schools and districts across the county – to conduct an anonymous survey on our behalf.
We encourage families to complete the family survey at home between February 1st and 16th. For more information, visit https://youthtruthsurvey.org/ and keep an eye out for more emails from the school.

Families and students:
It is hard to believe that we are already halfway through the school year! Before you know it, we will be in the thick of budding flowers, hay fever, and OSAS testing season! It is easy to get antsy when the sun is out and temperatures are warming. However close the end of the year may look, our work is not done until the last day of school!
I want to give a shout-out to all of our elementary and middle school students that completed their mid-year iReady math and reading assessments! Thank you for helping us track your progress, so our teachers know how we can help skills grow!
I am excited to see that we have a growing number of high school students finishing their social studies classes in the Imagine Learning Virtual Portal (ILVP). There are still a number of students who have not started their work in the ILVP. It is important to log in and get going! If you have difficulty, please contact Eva Bartlett or Christine Baker for help!
Speaking of Christine, I want to introduce her as one of our new office assistants! You may also notice that this newsletter was created by Sydney Hillman. As we get more comfortable in the office we share at Innovation Academy, we have gotten to enjoy the ability to integrate our office personnel. Sydney will be handling our communications and social media presence!
Morgan Davidson will be the office manager for both MOA and IA, and Jennifer Selberg will take on registrar duties for both schools as well! We are fortunate to have such a strong office team!
One other office change we are overjoyed to announce is the filling of the role of counselor for MOA. Mrs. Dick has accepted a new position, and our counselor office has been empty for far too long! The previously mentioned Eva Bartlett has been working on her school counselor certification while already helping the students and families of MOA for well over a year now. She will soon be assuming the role of counselor for Medford Online students!
We are still hoping to find a team of parents that are willing to work with Eva on planning and coordinating social opportunities for our students at all grade levels. Please give her a call if you are interested!
Have a wonderful February. As always, give us a call for any help you may need!
