Updated Third Grade Reading Guarantee Guidance Manual Available
An updated version of the Third Grade Reading Guarantee Guidance Manual is now available on DEW's website. The revised manual includes the most recent updates regarding the Reading Diagnostic, Reading Improvement and Monitoring Plans, high-dosage tutoring, promotion or exemption, and more.

Gifted Assessment Guidance Now Available
The Department posted a companion document to the List of Approved Assessments specifically for assessments approved for gifted identification and prescreening for the 2024-2025 school year. It provides Ohio school districts, educators, and families with guidance related to the selection and use of assessments approved for gifted identification and prescreening.
In addition, the companion document provides general guidance, such as qualifying scores, approved grade levels, considerations for use, tips for selecting approved assessments, and other pertinent information to help districts identify students who are gifted using approved assessments.

Updated Guidance and Resources to Support Attendance Initiatives Webinar
The Department is hosting an afternoon attendance webinar for schools, districts, and other professionals supporting Ohio attendance initiatives. The webinar will provide an overview of the Department’s Attendance Support webpage, which includes updated tools and resources.
Participants can register for the Aug. 26 Microsoft Teams webinar to learn about the following:
- Supports for schools and districts;
- Supports for families and students;
- Funding attendance initiatives; and
- Frequently asked questions

Opt-In Deadline Extended to 9-1-24 for Free Access to Zearn Math
Due to continued interest, the deadline to opt in to free access to Zearn Math has been extended to Sept. 1. Schools serving students in Grades K-8 can receive free access to Zearn Math, free training for teachers and leaders through Sept. 30, and rostering and deployment support to get set up quickly. Zearn Math is a top-rated math learning platform that gives Ohio students more opportunity to learn grade-level math with built-in, differentiated support. Fill out this short form to opt in.

Beginning Administrators Mentoring Program Applications Due by 9-1-24
Applications are now being accepted for the 2024-2025 Beginning Administrators Mentoring Program, sponsored by the Ohio Association of Elementary School Administrators (OAESA) and the Ohio Association of Secondary School Administrators (OASSA) in partnership with the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce.
This opportunity will provide valuable mentorship and professional development programming at no cost. This program is designed for new administrators who are in their first or second year in an administrative role. Additional details and application are available HERE.
