FOREST FLYERS Begins Next Week!!!
We are looking forward to another amazing year of Forest Flyers! September laps will be run next week, Monday-Thursday. If your child would like to participate, please remind them to wear appropriate shoes every morning. For Trillium parents new to the program, Forest Flyers is a voluntary program that kids can participate in four days a month during their lunch recess. There will be dedicated weeks each month for kids to run, walk or skip the forest loop. Running 20 laps a month, September through April, and 50 laps in May will earn them a full marathon (26.2 miles). Each month if a student runs 1 lap they will earn a shoe charm, if they run 20 laps or more they ALSO earn the special charm designated for that month. They can, and are encouraged to run more than 20 laps and “bank” them towards their marathon goal. At the end of each week, we will distribute charms to all students. If the student is absent during charm day, their charms will be given to their teacher. Beginning Monday, each student will receive their own electronic scan card that has a unique QR code that is located outside of their classroom in a pocket chart. It is attached to a breakaway lanyard that they can wear around their neck. Please remind your owl to keep their scan card at school. It should never come home with them. If you see it at home please send it back to school immediately. Lost cards will be replaced as soon as possible and to ensure it doesn’t interrupt their running they will use a manually marked card until their replacement card is made for the next month. Please volunteer through the school’s Help Counter to help scan and cheer for our owls. As always, please contact any team member with questions or concerns.
Sincerely,

A Note from PTA President-Christy Riehm
I was a volunteer before I was a PTA member. That first year at TCPS, I volunteered in the class and helped out at Harvest Happenings. I didn’t go to any PTA meetings. I didn’t know much about PTA. Something about parents, and teachers, working together for students, right? Yes,THAT, and so much more! It’s more than what happens at TCPS or in WLWV District, or even in Oregon. I discovered that PTA is so much bigger than us! PTA is a national advocacy association working hard for the education and wellness of students, including yours and mine, across the nation. As soon as I learned that, I knew it was something I wanted to support.
My $15 membership goes towards advocacy for school and education improvements, building coalitions to make positive change, and training local leaders (you and me) to plan programs and build better relationships with families and school administration. It goes towards grants that National PTA can offer to PTA’s across the country in areas of STEM, Digital Safety, Bully Prevention, Health and Safety, and Literacy. We were awarded a National PTA grant last year for Digital Safety and Awareness, which we wouldn’t have been able to do without our membership dues. There is not enough space in this Tweet to list out all the things PTA is working so hard to accomplish. But bottom line, they’re working for our kids at national, regional, and local levels, and they can’t do it without membership! With schools facing challenges like budget reduction and loss of programming, PTA is more important than ever!
Becoming a member of PTA does not require you to volunteer or come to PTA meetings; Of course, we’d love for you to come to a meeting or live-stream us so we can connect with you, or buy chips and dip for Staff Appreciation, or do a 30-min shift at Harvest Happenings (I know your kiddo would love that!). And volunteering does not obligate you to be a PTA member, but I hope you see the relationship. I hope you see the benefits of your $15 membership and that you’re putting that money towards the bigger picture-empowering PTA to advocate, and provide opportunities, for each of our kids. Please be a member of something bigger, that impacts so many students around the country, and then help us out here whenever you can!
