Dear Longacre Families,

We hope that your Thanksgiving break was filled with many opportunities to enjoy time with family and friends. We are excited to welcome your children back to another week at Longacre filled with opportunities to learn and to lead.

As we turn the calendar to December, it is an opportune time to revisit Habit #3: Put First Things First. Students have been setting personal and academic goals and learning the important habit of Putting First Things First and how to prioritize their most important tasks (or BIG ROCKS) first, leaving less important activities (little rocks) to be done afterwards. Examples of putting first things first include, working then playing and listening to directions before completing an assignment.

One way to help children organize their time effectively is the use of an ABC Prioritizer leadership tool which can be seen by clicking here: The Prioritizer. The ABC Prioritizer is a helpful strategy that can be implemented at home as well. Students think about what activities are most important and list those as "A's" on the prioritizer. Least important or "little" rocks are "C's" on the prioritizer. On the heels of your parent-teacher conversations, take some time to talk with your child about what his/her “big rocks” are at home and school.

During the month of December, students will be working on the skill of responsible decision making and Habit #3: Put First Things First. Responsible Decision Making: The abilities to make caring and constructive choices about personal behavior and social interactions across diverse situations. Such as demonstrating curiosity and open-mindedness, identifying solutions for personal and social problems, anticipating and evaluating the consequences of one’s actions.

Below is a neat activity you can do with your whole household. It is a great way to discuss and share priorities and how as a family we can support each other with our most important work.

With the colder weather here, please send your child(ren) to school dressed appropriately for outdoor recess with coats, hats, and gloves/mittens. Additionally, please remember to label your child’s clothing items so they can be easily identified if they become misplaced. Children will go out for recess as long as the wind chill temperature is above 0 degrees.

Please join us for our annual Family Game Night on Wednesday, December 4th from 6pm-7pm. Several of our Longacre staff/teachers have volunteered to play games with the students during this family friendly event. The PTA will provide a variety of games that are suitable for our K-5 age groups that the kids can rotate through.

Each student that attends will be entered into a raffle to win one of the games played that night.

To help us plan accordingly, please use the SIgnUp Genius to let us know if you can attend and how many STUDENTS will be participating.

This is a favorite event for both our teachers and students and we hope that you are able to join in the fun!
