The Messmore Messenger
June2025

A Note From the Principal
Dear Families,
As we wrap up another school year at Messmore , I want to extend my deepest appreciation to our incredible families. Your partnership, volunteerism, and support have been the heartbeat of our community. From classroom events, working in the lunchroom and recess, to school-wide celebrations, your involvement has truly made a difference and helped weave the strong fabric of connection that defines our Montessori environment.
Many families and staff members have been inquiring about the first day of the 2025-26 school year. By law, key dates included in school district calendars are subject to collective bargaining. We recognize the importance of planning family schedules as they relate to the start of school.
While productive and collaborative negotiations are continuing, we are making the following dates available at this time:
August 25, 2025 NO SCHOOL – Professional Development
August 26, 2025 First Day of School for Students (1/2 day Elementary; Full day Secondary)
August 29, 2025 NO SCHOOL
September 1, 2025 NO SCHOOL – Labor Day
September 17, 2025 NO SCHOOL – Professional Development
In addition, select vacation dates – such as Thanksgiving, Winter Break, and Spring Break - are aligned with the Macomb County Common Calendar. Please note – the final negotiated agreements may result in additional days connected to these breaks.
The above information has been added to our district website.
We will have a slight change in our school hours next year. The change will ensure that we are able to create greater stability and reliability for our transportation service at all grades throughout the school district. The new hours will also ensure that all UCS junior high schools are able to follow the same schedule.
Our new hours next year will be:
School-Aged Students
-
Full Day: 8:30 a.m. – 3:20 p.m.
-
Half Day: 8:30 a.m. – 11:34 a.m.
Montessori Preschool
-
AM Session: 8:30 a.m. – 11:20 a.m.
-
PM Session: 12:30 p.m. – 3:20 p.m.

-
AM Session: 8:40 a.m. – 11:14 a.m.
-
PM Session: 12:00 p.m. – 2:34 p.m.
I look forward to seeing everyone in August and introducing our newest Messmore families to the joy of Montessori learning.
With gratitude and warm wishes,
Renee Fiema, Ed.D.

Messmore Gives Back
One of the most meaningful traditions at Messmore Montessori is our annual Messmore Gives Back initiative. Each year, the profits from our holiday shopping event, Santariffic, are directed toward charitable giving—an effort led by our thoughtful and hardworking third and fourth grade students. These students research local and national organizations, engage in meaningful discussions, and ultimately present donations on behalf of our entire school community.
This year, thanks to your generous support, we were able to make a significant impact. The following organizations received donations:
-
The Children’s Foundation – $1,000
-
Henry Ford SandCastles – $1,500
-
Ronald McDonald House Charities – Detroit – $1,500
-
Paws with a Cause – $1,500
-
Sterling Heights K9 Unit – $500
Your participation in Santariffic made this possible and helped instill the spirit of generosity in our students. Thank you for supporting this tradition and helping our children learn the value of giving back to their community.
Shoutouts For MMA
A heartfelt thank you to our incredible Messmore Montessori Association (MMA) parent group for their continued generosity and support! Thanks to MMA, students enjoyed bounce houses and a DJ during Arts, Beats, and Eats, as well as bounce houses and refreshing popsicles for Field Day. Their thoughtful contributions also extended to our special family events in which sixth grade boys received custom ID bracelets at the Mother & Son event, and sixth grade girls were gifted beautiful gold-plated knot bangles at the Daddy Daughter Dance. We are so grateful for the love, peace, and community spirit our parents bring to Messmore!
A huge thank you to our dedicated MMA Board!
A huge thank you to our dedicated MMA Board for their tireless efforts behind the scenes to ensure our events run smoothly and joyfully. From organizing unforgettable student experiences to showering our staff with appreciation through events like the Sunshine Lunches, Teacher/Staff Appreciation, and the Mystery Dinner , their commitment is felt in every thoughtful detail. The care and kindness they extend to our entire Messmore community. As a staff, we are deeply grateful and humbled by the love and support we receive. Thank you, MMA, for all that you do!
Shout-out to Mr. Orlowski
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Mr. Orlowski for his daily dedication to ensuring student safety at the main crosswalk in our parking lot. His cheerful presence each morning is a true ray of sunshine, reminding us all of the power of kindness and community in keeping our school safe.
