February's News Letter
PRINCIPAL'S NEWS
Dear Davidson Families,
I hope this month's message finds you well. We are truly enjoying Love of Reading Week at Davidson this week. This special occasion provides a fantastic opportunity for us to come together as a school community and celebrate the joy of reading.
Reading is a fundamental skill that forms the foundation of academic success and personal growth. Beyond its practical benefits, however, reading also has the power to enrich our lives in countless ways. That's why I encourage you, this week and beyond, to engage in shared reading experiences with your children. Here are a few reasons why family reading time is so crucial:
Bonding Time: Reading together creates special moments of connection and bonding between family members. It's a time to share stories, explore new worlds, and discuss the wonders of literature.
Building Vocabulary: Reading aloud with your child exposes them to new words and helps build their vocabulary. A rich vocabulary is essential for effective communication and academic success. Cognitive Development: Reading stimulates brain development, enhances concentration, and fosters critical thinking skills. It opens up new perspectives and encourages imaginative thinking.
Fostering Empathy: Books often introduce characters from diverse backgrounds and experiences. Reading allows children to step into different shoes, promoting empathy and understanding. Setting a Positive Example:
1. Children are more likely to become lifelong readers when they see their parents and caregivers enjoying books. Be a positive role model by demonstrating your own love of reading.
The love of reading is a gift that lasts a lifetime. By instilling this passion in our children, we equip them with a powerful tool for learning, self-discovery, and personal growth. If you're looking for book recommendations or ways to make reading time more engaging, feel free to reach out to our dedicated team of educators. We're here to support you in fostering a love of reading in your child. Thank you for your ongoing support and for sharing your children with us!
Warm Regards Sarah Andricopoulos,
Proud Principal of Davidson
COUNSELOR"S NEWS
This month in Life Skills, we are focusing on Cooperation. We have been working on fun activities to get kids thinking about what kind of character traits they need to cooperate. Discuss with your students about how your family cooperates and what kind of traits will help them be more successful when they work in a team.
