Habit 7: Sharpen the Saw
This month we have been learning about Habit #7: Sharpen the Saw. Sharpen the Saw means preserving and enhancing the greatest asset you have--YOU! It means having a balanced program for self-renewal in the four areas of your life: physical, social/emotional, mental, and spiritual.
Here are some habit 7 ‘saw-sharpening ideas:
- Exercise
- Educate yourself (read, listen to audio programs, attend a class or club)
- Learn a new skill
- Meditate
- Write in your journal
- Have a deep conversation with someone
- Set some new goals or review/update your old goals
- Organize your room
- Clear out a bunch of little tasks that you have been putting off
Notes from Nurse Becky
Strep Throat and other illnesses are going strong here at Hanawalt. Please help slow the spread by:
Keeping your student home from school if they have symptoms of illness.
If your student vomits, they should not be sent to school until symptom free for 24 hours.
If your student has a fever, they need to stay home from school for 24 hours without a fever and without using fever reducing medications.
Call the school to report their illness. Doing so allows us to stay up to date on illnesses, correct guidance can be given on when your student can return to school and their attendance can be coded correctly.
If symptoms are not improving, a doctor's appointment and following up with the school nurse is encouraged. If a student is seen by a provider, please turn in their doctor's note so that we can update their attendance.
If your student tests positive for any illness, please call the school for guidance on when they are able to return.
*Friendly reminder about Strep Throat: Antibiotics are necessary, and students can return to school after being on their antibiotics for 24 hours as long as they have not had a fever for 24 hours (without the use of fever reducing medication).
*If you have any questions, I'm here to help. Thank you for all that you do! 🙂
Clothes Needed:
Please keep a change of clothes in your student's backpack so they can change into clothes that fit them if they have spills or accidents of any kind.
If you have leggings or sweatpants of any child's size that you no longer want, the Health Office would gladly take them. When a student needs to change their clothes but does not have any in their backpack, I provide Health Office clothes to them, so parents do not have to come to school to bring clothes. Unfortunately, I have given out all of the leggings/sweatpants that I have.
If your student comes home with Health Office clothes, please wash and then return them.
We are looking forward to finishing this school year strong, happy and healthy.
