SOS-Signs of Suicide-Grades 6, 7, 8
Signs of Suicide Program
Barry will be implementing the evidence-based process of Signs of Suicide (SOS) with our students this fall. This process reinforces Acknowledge, Care, Tell (ACT), as a way each of us can help when students are struggling. We began this process last winter with training staff, and this year’s expansion includes students. Our SOS parent letter provides more detail on the process that will be happening here at Barry School. The letter is included below.
Our school experienced the loss of a student to suicide last year. Aydin Phillips, died by suicide in February, and we continue to support our students, staff and families. Please reach out to us if you or your student is struggling.

Parent IgNIGHT - Signs of Suicide: Engaging Parents as Partners in Prevention
If you were unable to attend this session last night, click here to view the presentation, here to view the Facebook Live video, and here to visit the website with Signs of Suicide program parent resources. Parents learned the components of PCR-3's Signs of Suicide program, developed skills to continue conversations with students at home, and engaged as partners in suicide prevention.
Friday Football
PCHS Football Game Reminders
Reminder: Pirate football games are a time for us all to gather and enjoy some fantastic company and great sports. Please remind your students that the football stadium is an extension of the classroom, and appropriate behavior and good sportsmanship are expected. In addition, elementary students should be supervised by a parent and with you at all times.
Homecoming 2019
Platte County's Homecoming festivities run Sept. 30 through Oct. 4. This year's theme is "Peace, Love, Pirates." - a disco theme. Click here for the week's spirit days and festivities.
PCHS will host the Victory Supper on Wednesday, October 2, starting at 6 p.m. at Pirate Stadium. The Victory Supper will be a community pep rally with our coaches introducing the fall teams, the crowning of the underclassmen candidates and the Homecoming King, and performances by the Traditions Band, PCHS cheerleaders and alumni cheerleaders. PCHS cheerleading alumni are asked to arrive at 5:30 p.m. for a short practice. Second (or third) generation Pirates (those students with parents who graduated from PCHS) are invited to gather at 5:45 p.m. in the southside stands for a group photo. Food will also be provided, and the event is open to the community.
The Homecoming Parade will begin at 3 p.m. on Friday, October 4, and will run on Fourth Street from Thomas Drive to the former Rising Star Elementary. Students will be dismissed three hours early that day. Parents and the community are encouraged to arrive by 2:25 p.m. as Fourth Street between Zed Martin and Thomas Drive will be closed to traffic beginning at 2:30 p.m. Thomas Drive between Siegrist Elementary and Fourth Street will also be closed. If you'd like to participate in the parade, please contact Kyle Perkins or Gena Puckett for an entry form by October 2. AGAIN THIS YEAR: There will be a shuttle bus to take parade participants and their sponsors back to the main PCR-3 campus. The shuttle bus will be parked along Zed Martin Drive. Floats will disband in the Rising Star parking lot and will take the path from the Rising Star playground to Zed Martin Drive. We encourage parents to pick up their participants at the PCR-3 main campus.
Immediately following the parade, on the Platte County Courthouse steps, the Traditions Band will perform several pieces including the Platte County "Fight Song" to get in the Homecoming spirit. Wells Bank will also be hosting its annual Community Tailgate Party, featuring a PCR-3 Voice Competition following the parade in the High Pointe Shops Shopping Center parking lot. Come cheer on your favorite vocalists as they sing their way to stardom, and enjoy free food and drinks!
Homecoming Football Game: The Pirates will take on the Smithville Warriors at 7 p.m. on Friday, October 4 at Pirate Stadium. The Homecoming Queen will be crowned at halftime, and the Pride Band will perform after the game.
