Parents and Guardians,

Vista View will be hosting the Minnesota School Sealant Program, where your child has the opportunity to receive FREE or reduced cost preventive dental services at school. A licensed dental professional will be offering sealants, cleanings, and fluoride varnishes to students.

The School Sealant Program will be happening on:

Thursday, April 18th for grades PreK-5.

In order to be eligible to receive these services, you need to fill out a consent form with your child's information and return it to school.

The consent form is due by: Wednesday, March 20th.

If you have any kind of dental insurance, these services are completely FREE to you. We submit the procedures to your insurance and donate whatever portion they do not cover. If you do not have dental insurance, your child can receive these services at 70% off the usual rates.

Dental sealants, fluoride varnishes, and teeth cleanings are often provided in a public health setting due to the amazing benefits they provide at a low cost. Your child will be kept comfortable throughout these easy preventive dental services. The entire process takes less than 15 minutes. They even get to see the tooth fairy that travels with our program!

Your student is encouraged to participate in this annual program every year. If your student was seen last year, this will allow the MN School Sealant Program to provide a cleaning and fluoride varnish which we recommended once every 6 months for kids. Sealants only need to be placed once for each adult molar tooth. If there is a new adult tooth erupted that needs a sealant, it will be placed. Please check all three boxes on the consent form for optimal oral health.

Please note that this program is at our school for a limited time and they have many children to help. Checking the boxes on the consent form authorizes them to perform those services, but DOES NOT GUARANTEE they will be completed. The dental professionals provide services as time allows. They will only submit the services that they are able to complete to your insurance. Please note that if you have insurance, the procedures we provide will affect your frequency limitations for those specific dental codes for when you next see your dentist. Please inform your dentist of what procedures were provided and the date so that they can keep you informed on your insurance coverage. For example, if we provide a cleaning for your child, most insurances will not cover another cleaning for 6 months. You just need to inform your dentist so they can do the appropriate procedures and not duplicate services as they may not be covered.

Please allow the MN School Sealant Program 2-6 weeks for processing all the paperwork after the program is complete. They will send you an email in 2-6 weeks with the results of your student’s oral health screening, what procedures were completed and recommendations for follow up care with a dentist. VA class registration for the 24-25 school year will take place in late April/early May. Middle school students will receive information through their advisory time.

8th GRADE SUMMER STEM SUCCESS ACADEMY (for incoming 9th grade students to BHS)

The 2024 Summer STEM Success Academy is an excellent way for incoming 9th grade students to: earn high school credit, learn the in's and out's of high school life, as well having the potential to meet new friends.

The Summer STEM Success Academy provides students with the ability to earn up to *2 elective high school credits for their attendance and participation in 3 unique high school classes. Students will partake in the 9th grade Strategies course where they will learn the "lay of the land" at BHS as well as basic skills academically and emotionally they will need to have a successful first year. There is also a Leadership and Service course where students will learn about social justice issues and develop a plan for a service learning project that they will enact during their first semester as a high school student. Last but not least, is the STEM with writing course, where students will get the opportunity to develop their skills in the area of STEM highlighting 4 different areas of engineering.

The application is open now and will close on May 31st. The cap of the program is 120 students, so the first 120 students will be placed in a class and all of those after that will be placed on a waitlist.

*Students will earn up to 1.5 credits during the summer programming July 8-Aug 2, they will have the opportunity to earn .5 more of a credit for a total of up to 2 credits if they complete their service project that they create in the Leadership and Service class by then end of first semester (mid january)

The Seal of Multiliteracy assessment will be administered starting on April 17th. If you are proficient in speaking, listening, writing, and reading in a language other than English, this is an opportunity for you.

Registration has now opened for the 2024 Credit Recovery Summer Program. Registration is completed with a student's counselor after a credit audit has been conducted. Please contact your student's counselor to register.

Attached you will find the Frequently Asked Questions document for Credit Recovery which explains information such as how to enroll, when programming will be taking place, and who to contact for more information.

2. City of Burnsville Natural Resources If you are someone looking for a summer opportunity to work outside and gain experience in the natural resources field, consider volunteering with the City of Burnsville. 4. PALS afterschool K-5 help Do you have a knack for little ones, would you like to help tutor and mentor youth K -5 within our district? PALS is the program for you. Starting January 3rd, PALS will meet every Tuesday and Wednesday (you can decide on 1 or both days each week) unless school is released due to weather from 4:00p to 6:00p. PALS is currently held at: Hidden Valley, Harriet Bishop, Edward Neill, Sky Oaks, and Rahn Elementary Schools. PALS will give you valuable insight into the minds of our younger generation. 5. The Free Book Buggie. Each Saturday will be the Free Book Buggie book sort event from 10a-12p or Tuesday after school in C100. 7. Hot Chocolate RUN for student Groups The Hot Chocolate RUN, coined as America's Sweetest Race, is coming to Minneapolis the weekend of April 13 and we are looking for volunteer groups to make the event a success! We are hoping you and your group might be willing to help!

Our volunteer program offers donations and we are happy to contribute towards any fundraising goals your organization might have. Groups who bring at least 10 volunteers will receive a $100 donation, 15 volunteers receive a $150 donation, 20 volunteers receive a $200 donation, and so on! The more volunteers the group can provide the bigger the donation! All race day volunteers (2/4 only) will receive a super-sweet goodie bag to commemorate your race experience!

8. Peer Tutoring on Tuesdays and or Wednesdays: The tutor center is seeking help on Tuesdays and Wednesdays from 2:45-3:25, you will receive 2 hours of time for 40 minutes of work. You do not have to commit to attending each week, you must use the following link each week to sign up to be a peer tutor.

Gideon Pond Classroom Helper Gideon Pond is seeking volunteers from 2:45-3:55 (start time is flexible) Volunteers would help with activities and help students get ready to go home where they will work with teacher Casey Hildrth. One91 American Indian Education Program is hosting a Family & Community Literacy Night (event) at both Vista View April 4 and Hidden Valley April 5. We're bringing Indigenous/Standing Rock Lakota/Dakota Author Jessie TakenAlive Rencountre, to share a story/ies with our 191 community.
