A Message from Mrs. Cornett - Cafeteria Behavior
We need your help in improving behavior at VMS. Specifically, we need to address student behavior in the cafeteria. Students are expected to stay in their seats unless they are going to buy food in the line, throw their trash away, use the microwave, or if they have permission to use the restroom. We have many students walking around the cafeteria who are asked to return to their seats multiple times every lunch period. Students are leaving trash on the tables and the floor. We have students who throw food at friends, fling yogurt, and even put their feet on the cafeteria tables. Last week our 6th grade students began participating in a Tik Tok challenge that disrupted the lunch period. In this challenge, a student says pumpkin and any student that hears it has to reply pumpkin louder. This resulted in 6th grade students screaming pumpkin back and forth across the cafeteria.
We tell our students every morning and throughout lunch that their behavior should reflect the way they would act if they were eating in a restaurant or eating at the table with their family. Please help us reinforce these good manners and habits at home by having conversations about appropriate cafeteria behavior with your Eagles. We know that aligning expectations at home and school will help improve student behavior. If you would like to volunteer to help during a lunch period, please complete the volunteer form at the bottom of this newsletter. Thank you for your support.
Theater UIL One Act
The VMS Theatre competed in the UIL One Act competition on Saturday, November 16th. It was a 12-hour day with 6 schools competing out in Fredericksburg. Each school gave exceptional performances and the competition was intense. Students are critiqued on a number of things from their projection and articulation, to their expression of emotions, storytelling, physicality, tech elements, and ensemble work among many other things. Each school is allotted 7mins to set up, exactly 40 minutes for their full performance, and 7mins to strike the entire set.
After a series of incredible performances, Voss was the penultimate show. The students' performance elicited so many reactions during the show including huge laughter, gasps, and tears. At the end of the performance, they checked our performance run time. There are 3 official stopwatches across the auditorium to compare results. UIL rules states that at least one of those watches MUST be under 40mins to pass. (A single second over would lead to disqualification.) Two of the three watches recorded exactly 40 minutes and 0 seconds with one watch stopped at 39 minutes and 57 seconds.
That being said, Voss Middle School won 3rd place with several students winning additional awards! Easton Murski was awarded Best Tech; Gage Folmar won an Honorable Mention; Gage O'Connor won an All Star Cast Award (along with a huge fan base among the other schools...); and finally, Haley Faulkenberry won one of the only two Best Performer Awards. Of all the students across all the schools competing, only two students receive this award and this is the second year in a row (and third competition in a row) that a Voss student has won this award (—with Gage Folmar being our previous award winner!)
We are incredibly proud of our students and the incredible performance they put on and how well they represented our school. There is so much work that goes into these performances and so much teamwork required in order to succeed. Thank you to our director, Mr. Robert Gonzalez for your work with our theater. Congratulations VMS theater!

- Mrs. Comley - Mrs. Comley has been so supportive and helpful. If there is ever any question or concern, she is quick to respond and help out. We are so thankful for her dedication to the students and love for Voss!
- Ms. Perez - Thank you for giving up your time so freely to tutor my son with his math work. You have no idea how much it means to me! We saw the great things you did last year with our older son, so I thank you from the bottom of my heart for being the teacher that you are! (And... a life saver... cuz I am reading teacher and NOT a math teacher....)
- Ms. Nichols - Thank you for taking extra time during advisory to help my son with his math. I appreciate how hard you work with your kids given everything you've had to deal with. You are a strong woman and an awesome teacher! Thank you very much!!!

See Something, Say Something
School safety is very important, and it's up to all of us to work together as a team to prevent bad things from happening.
If we all stay alert and work as a team to report dangerous or suspicious activity, we can help keep our schools safe.
