December 9, 2024
We hope you are staying warm during these early winter days......we are enjoying the inside recess but look forward to being outside in fresh air again soon. We enjoy our playground and building memories with our friends!!!
In the Northridge District Newsletter, we are sure you saw, that our wonderful assistant principal Mrs. Brechbill is moving to the high school, as principal. Dr Michael, our Superintendent said in the district newsletter last week that she is "pleased to announce that Mrs. Rebecca Brechbill will step into the role of principal at Northridge High School. Many of you already know Mrs. Brechbill from her 22 years in the district, first as a PE teacher at Northridge High School and most recently as the assistant principal at NES. She is calm, steady, approachable, and deeply committed to building strong relationships. She’s also a familiar face to many of our high school students, having taught them during their K-5 years. We are excited to have her leadership as we move forward."
We all want to wish Mrs. Brechbill HUGE congratulations as she moves to lead the high school and wish her tremendous appreciation and love for all she has done for our elementary school. We all agree that she is deeply committed to relationships in her calm, nurturing, and passionate leadership. Please let your children know of this as they adore Mrs. Brechbill. If children or your family would like to leave Mrs. Brechbill a note or a card, picture, etc. we will have a decorated box in the office to place such things. Our children are so loving and giving, they love to make us things! Mrs. Brechbill will move to the high school in January, 2025. (as she says....she will be right across the parking lot....not too far)
This week we will continue mid- year I-Ready testing in the areas of Reading and Math. The testing window closes December 13th. Your child's teacher will share with you the exact dates they intend to assess your child. During December we will also be taking a good look at reading and math skill and strategy development through a number of formative assessments such as Acadience which assesses phonemic awareness, phonics, and comprehension. Our goal, through assessments, is to monitor student progress and growth in order to challenge our students or to provide intervention. We like to keep a good eye on growth and progress and plan accordingly.
This week we are also having a YEARBOOK ART CONTEST!!! We are running the contest for the next few weeks. We will be distributing a hard copy of the entry form to all children......the theme for our yearbook is our yearly school theme of TOGETHER WE SHINE!! Top entries will be used to decorate throughout our yearly yearbook and on the cover!! We have great artists!
The week of December 16th-19th, there will be a NES Secret Santa Shop sponsored by our lovely PTO. All of our children will be invited to shop Pre K -Gr. 5. More details to come. It is a tremendous week for our children. They look forward to it each and every year. Thank you PTO!!
To celebrate all the winter holidays together, we will have spirit days next week..... this will be the week of December 16th-19th. Here is the plan. We sooooo enjoy our spirit days as a school community and our kids ask for these dates!!
Save the date! Our 2nd and 3rd grade winter music program is Thursday, December 12th at 6:00 pm in the Northridge Elementary Auditeria.
