Week 36
This past Wednesday we hosted the rising 6th graders for our Step-up day! It was wonderful to see how our 7th grade student leaders stepped up to lead tours, facilitate sessions and be a friendly face and welcoming presence. Our rising 6th graders were principled, caring, balanced and courageous on Wednesday and we are very excited to welcome them back to school on Orientation day in August.
At the same time, our rising 9th graders walked to the Highschool for their step-up day! The vibe from chaperones and the Highschool staff was that they embodied similar learner profile attributes and represented their class and MUMS well.
8th grade families should have received information via USPS regarding our 8th grade Promotion on June 13th. Please reach out with any questions.
In the coming week, you can expect to see information regarding our 6th and 7th grade field trip to Branbury on June 13th, including field trip permission forms. Please direct any questions regarding this trip to Dustin Hunt.
Lastly, our last day of school for students is Monday June 16th, 2025. We will spend that day celebrating the year with a Field Days!
Again, thanks for all of your support and have a great weekend!
Best,
Michaela

Road Construction Project on Middle Road
As many of you already know, the Town of Middlebury will be completing paving on Middle Road this summer! There are a few additional aspects of this project that will directly benefit MUMS to make for better parking along middle road and safety measures to ensure pedestrian safety in and around the Deerfield Lane/Middle road intersection. There should be minimal impact to traffic prior to the closure of school for the summer. However, one known impact will be to parking on the south side of Deerfield lane as they work to widen the road. Thanks for your understanding and thanks to the Town of Middlebury for prioritizing this work.
End of the School Year Dance
On Friday, June 6th, a dance for all MUMS students will be held from 7:00pm - 9:00pm. We are calling this an end of the school year bash and there is no set theme. The cost to attend the dance is $5.00. MUMS staff, school administration, along with parent chaperones will be present for the entire evening to supervise students.
For 8th Grade Families- We will be hosting a special dinner for 8th grade students from 6-7pm right before the dance on 6/6. Students should not arrive before 6pm. We will be serving pasta, salad, garlic bread and dessert. There is no cost to attend and we hope your 8th grade student will join us to celebrate their 3 years here at MUMS.
Permission slips for the dance will be handed out in TA on Monday. If the permission slip doesn't make its way home you can also print one here Dance Permission Slip.
We are also looking for parents that are interested in chaperoning and/or donating items for the concession stand. To sign up please go use the signup genius here Dance Sign-Up Genius

From The MYP Coordinators
Students in health class are currently learning important information about substances and examining the question, Why does anyone use_____? (We fill in the blank with any of a number of categories of substances: alcohol, nicotine, marijuana, prescription drugs, etc.) The students practice and develop key skills like decision making and analyzing influences, and discuss the anatomy and physiology of the brain and the reward pathway as instrumental in the “Why.” The focus of this unit highlights the benefits of NOT using, and the conversations in our health classes have been rich and meaningful. The students utilize communication skills as a bridge from our previous unit on mental health to develop and practice refusal skills. As we wrap up the unit, each student will have an opportunity to create their own plan of action using refusal skills and making decisions. This plan emphasizes the importance of mind and body wellness where substances are concerned. Thank you to Ms. Carra and her students for focusing on this very important topic.
