SPARTAN SHIELD
WEEK OF MAY 19TH
8TH GRADE PROMOTION CEREMONY ON MAY 31st!
Attention! Please Read!
The time for the Promotion Ceremony has been adjusted. Doors will open at 9:15 A.M. and students will arrive at 9:15 A.M. The ceremony will begin promptly at 10:00 A.M.
Please read these important details:
- 8th graders will not come to campus on May 31; they will report straight to the Arcade Church. The last day that 8th graders are expected on campus is Thursday, May 30th. Eighth-grade students may attend school on June 3rd and 4th, but they will have already promoted, so they do not have to attend.
- While we hold our Promotion Ceremony at the Arcade Church, there are no religious or spiritual aspects to our ceremony. The Arcade Church simply has an auditorium and parking lots that can accommodate all of our students and families for this event.
- 8th graders must report to the Gym at 9:15 A.M.. Please see the map above of the venue. There will be signage directing students to the gym.
- 8th graders will check in with their assigned teacher.
- If any 8th graders arrive after 9:45 A.M., they may miss the procession (this is when students enter with special music and a slide show plays as the crowd claps for them). They will still be able to participate in the remainder of the ceremony.
- Please do not bring balloons or other items that may block another family behind you from seeing their student. The venue does not allow balloons inside. We ask that you not bring them or leave them in your vehicle.
- All 8th graders will be recognized during the ceremony, but will not walk across the stage, as they do at graduation. "Crossing the stage" is a special part of graduations, which we honor at the end of students' high school careers. Students who win an individual award will be called to the stage.
- Please see the map above for parking and be aware of the no parking areas.
There is a video message from Principal McManigal regarding Promotion. Please watch the video below.
SCHOOL SITE COUNCIL MEETING
SIX FLAGS FIELD TRIP
The 8th grade Six Flags trip is this Friday, May 24!
Please help your student prepare by reminding them of these important details:
- Students must arrive by 8:00 A.M.
- Students are only allowed to bring the school sack lunch into the park; no other food is allowed inside.
- If students are purchasing lunch, rather than eating the school lunch, students must bring cash, which they can turn into a pre-paid card at a kiosk. (Six Flags is not taking cash at food places right now, but there are machines in the park that will put their money on a card to use.)
- Students will be back at Arcade at 7:30 P.M. Please be sure to make arrangements to pick up your student promptly upon their return.
Thank you!
RETURN BOOKS AND CHROMEBOOKS TO THE LIBRARY!
It's That Time of Year to Begin Returning Books to the Library!

Students will receive an email from Mrs. Payne at their San Juan email address if they are missing library books, textbooks, Chromebooks, or chargers. The overdue notice will be emailed on Tuesday, May 18, and Monday, May 24.
Lost or damaged books:
Please pay the district's cost to replace or purchase a replacement copy. The replacement copy must be in good condition (if used) with the same ISBN (International Standard Book Number) and publication date.
Textbooks can be purchased online at websites such as Half-Price Books, cheapbooks.com, Barnes & Noble, Bulk Bookstore, Book Outlet, GetTextbooks.com, Google, or Amazon.
Lost books need to be cleared as soon as possible. Thank you!

POSITIVE BEHAVIOR INTERVENTIONS AND SUPPORTS
Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS)
Arcade follows the Positive Behavior Interventions and Supports (PBIS) framework, which creates an environment that allows all students to thrive. As part of that framework, teachers acknowledge students who are exhibiting Spartan Strong behaviors, being kind, safe, and responsible, by giving them a Spartan Strong ticket.
A raffle is held every week using these tickets, and Spartan Strong winners are announced on Fridays. The lucky winners then pick out a prize in the office. You can watch the announcement of the winners in the video below!
Thank you, Spartans, for being kind, safe, and responsible!
We have one more raffle left! It is the Quarter 4 raffle with some really amazing prizes!

Two of our district committees, the Curriculum and Standards Committee and the Facilities and Transportation Committee, are looking for representatives from Area 2 (Arcade's trustee area). We are looking for individuals who are team builders, great communicators, inquisitive, and problem solvers to step into the role of these two committee openings.
