Principal's Message
Greetings SHMS Community!
Congratulations to the 6th grade for winning this term's Pep Assembly and earning a dress down week to finish up the calendar year! As a reminder, students in all three grade levels are invited to dress down on Friday so we can finish the year looking fly!
We are having such a fantastic school year and the last couple of week's events have highlighted the efforts of our incredible students, staff, and families. Thank you all for supporting students in their learning and being present for them when they showcase it - whether it's a concert, athletic event, performance, conference, or publishing party, our shared efforts to show give our students support and attention ensures that they are making the most of middle school.
When we return from the upcoming winter recess students will begin middle of year assessments so we can measure their growth in literacy, math, and science before the first half of the school year concludes at the end of January. It is important for students to try their best on these assessments so teachers have accurate information to use in planning for the second half of the school year. I am excited that our educators are working on plans to engage students in a new individualized academic monitoring and goal setting routine when we return from the break.
We only have five days left in the calendar year and look forward to seeing students for all of them so we sustain our momentum through the vacation. Let's have a great week on purpose!
Warm regards,
Eric Fraser
Principal

New Information and Important Updates
A Magical Winter Concert at Stuart-Hobson
Last week, our Winter Concert brought the magic of music to life as our talented students showcased their progress and passion. Even beginner musicians impressed the audience with their performances after just one term of music. The evening reached its crescendo with the Panther Funk Go-Go Band, who brought the house down with energetic renditions of "Sardines and Pork and Beans," "Carol of the Bells," and a Go-Go version of "Jingle Bells" that had everyone grooving in their seats!
We extend our deepest gratitude to Mr. Simmons, our phenomenal instrumental music program director, and to band parent extraordinaire Stacy Yonkers, whose dedication and passion helped create such a special night for our community. We also want to thank the Stuart-Hobson administration, staff, and caregivers for their behind-the-scenes support that made this concert a true success.
Grammy® Award-winning Imani Winds Visits Stuart-Hobson
Last week, Stuart-Hobson had the honor of hosting the Grammy® Award-winning Imani Winds, a renowned wind quintet based in New York City. The group captivated our students with a remarkable performance and an engaging educational session. Thank you to Mr. Simmons for bringing this extraordinary opportunity to our school community!
Stuart-Hobson at Ed Fest!
This past Saturday, Stuart-Hobson proudly represented our school community at Ed Fest! A heartfelt thank you to Principal Fraser, Ms. Boroughs, Ms. Kaijage, and our amazing student representative, Laila, for engaging with visitors and thoughtfully answering their questions.
We received an outpouring of compliments about Stuart-Hobson’s strong academics, vibrant arts programs, numerous clubs, and competitive athletics—all a testament to the incredible dedication of our school community. Many rising 6th graders shared glowing feedback about their experiences during Step-Up Days, and it was wonderful to reconnect with so many SH alumni who stopped by to say hello!
Athletics

The 2024-2025 Athletics’ Participation packet has been released. All students must complete a participation packet every school year. Universal Health Certificate (UHC).
Students with certain medical conditions may also need to complete an Asthma Action Plan or an Anaphylaxis Action Plan
Please note that it is not necessary to submit a new participation packet for each season. A complete packet includes the DCIAA forms filled out in their entirety along with a Universal Health Certificate that was completed within the last year.
