Freeman Frolic - Weekly Student and Family Newsletter
Let us know!!
Hi families,
Let us know if you are attending Literacy Night on March 7th so we can get a headcount to better provide you with food! A form should be sent home from your child's teacher. Please check folders and return the form back to school as quickly as you can. We are looking forward to seeing many of you here at Freeman Elementary!
Science Olympiad Competes Saturday, March 2, 2024
Fourteen of our fourth and fifth grade students will compete in the Division A Science Olympiad Competition at Ashley High School on Saturday, Mar 2nd. They have been studying, building, and training for months. Ms. Fullwood, our STEM teacher, has been coaching them and will attend the event with the team. Wish them luck!
We would like to thank Chad Towne with Squidworks for donating t-shirts to the team!
Families of team members, make sure you're reading the notes about the bus and the event day that are coming home from Ms. Fullwood!
Battle of the Books
Mr. Brown is taking the Battle of the Books team to the NHCS District competition on Wednesday, March 6th at UNCW. Freeman will compete against 21 other elementary schools. The students have read and studied 15 books! We wish you the best of luck!
If your child is interested in being on the Battle of the Books team next school year, his is the book list for the 2024-2025 school year. There is nothing better than a rainy day with a good book!
Away for the Day
Families and students,
Lately, we are seeing more cell phone use in our building and on the buses without teacher/staff persmission. This is disrupting learning. R. Freeman has an AWAY FOR THE DAY cell phone policy.
- Cell phones must be silenced or off
- Cell phones need to be safely put away in backpacks
- No cell phone use on the bus to or from school.
If students are on their phones or using their devices without teacher permission, teachers can keep the phone in their desk and return it to the student as they dismiss. If the phone continues to be a disruption to student learning, the teacher can call the parent to come to school and pick up the phone. If there is a need for you to contact your student, please call the school at 910-251-6011. If your students needs to get in touch with a family member or caregiver, teachers, the school nurse, and other adults can help. We appreciate your cooperation in this matter.
February is Bus Driver Appreciation Month
Share your positive notes!
Teacher Workday and Primary Election Day
There will be a teacher workday on March 5th.

There will be no school for students on Tuesday, March 5, 2024.
School Hours and Procedures
School Doors Open at 7:15am
School Starts at 7:40am
School is dismissed at 2:35pm
We understand that the check-in process takes time. The school district requires our start time to be 7:40am. Students who are tardy in elementary school MUST be signed in by the adult bringing them to school. The best way to avoid the line is to be on time. :)
To check in a student in the mornings if they arrive after 7:40, an ADULT must walk them in, sign them in to the computer, print a sticker for them to take to class. This is time consuming! It's easier to just be on time.
To check a student out early, you must arrive before 2pm. You HAVE TO HAVE A STATE-ISSUED ID to check out a student early, and you must be listed as someone who can check out the student.
If you have a transportation change for you child, you MUST call/email this in before 2pm. The school phone number is (910) 251-6011.
