GRANDPARENTS DAY LUNCHEON
We would like to invite RAE Grandparents to our 2024 RAE Grandparents Day Luncheon on September 6, 2024. Please make sure you select the correct grade and teacher below. We will have grandparents meet the students in the gym and sit with the student at the appropriately marked tables. Please note: just because you are registering here, does not mean we have you in our Raptor system. So if you think that you are not in our Raptor System, meaning you have not been to our school within the last year, you will either need to come a week before the event to have your license scanned, or wait on the line the day of the event. Please note due to capacity & safety issues, no younger children are allowed. We will be sending your Raptor Badge home with your student the week of this event. If you do not have your badge the day of the event, you must wait in line in order for us to print you a new one. Thank you and we look forward to seeing you enjoy lunch with your student!! THE DEADLINE TO SIGN UP WILL BE 9/1/24.

- 2nd - 5th Graders - May bring telecommunication devices, but they MUST be turned off and not visible during the school day & when on student transportation.
In order to personalize student learning opportunities, we ARE requesting that all students bring in headphones daily to access features on their devices. Our students are utilizing technology in the classroom daily to support what we are teaching in class. Please help us by ensuring that your child has a pair of headphones that work on their school Chromebooks (2nd - 5th) or iPads (EC - 1st).
Here is a suggested style of headphone that many of our 2nd - 5th grade students have on campus:

Communicable Illnesses
Smiley faces have returned to the classrooms, and unfortunately germs have too. KISD covid policies changed last spring. Readmission requirements for students and staff diagnosed with covid are essentially the same as the standard 24-hour rule: Fever free for 24-hours without fever reducing medication and improved symptoms. I still keep track of all communicable illnesses and will report trends in classrooms, grade levels, etc. Please continue to include me in any communication regarding contagious illnesses. Keep in mind that with these changed policies, we may not be notified of potential illnesses or close contacts. Please take measures to keep yourselves healthy. I'm happy to help if you have any questions or concerns. Be well, Nurse Amanda

5th Grade Parents- ELEMENTARY HEALTH TEKS AND PARENT OPT-IN CONSENT
In accordance with Texas Education Code 28.004 and Senate Bill 9, 5th grade students will receive instruction on the required health TEKS specific to abuse and violence prevention. Under Texas statute, parents must choose to “opt-in” for their 5th grade student to participate in lessons that address the topics of abuse and violence prevention. On September 2, 2024, parents/guardians will receive information via email on how to view the associated lessons and record their decision for student “opt-in” of these lessons. Below are the windows for both the parent opt-in and when lessons will be taught: Parent Opt-In Window: September 2nd – September 30th Instruction Window: November 4th – December 20th
Arrival and Dismissal Procedures
Parents of Bus Riders: If your student is a bus rider, look for the white route number on the side of the bus when tracking their bus this school year! And make sure to download the Smart tag™ app from your mobile Google Play Store or Apple App Store! The Smart Tag app allows parents to set their preferred notifications, including when their child’s bus is expected to arrive. You can also see when and where your student boards and exits the bus.
2024-2025 Arrival Procedures
Students may enter the building at 7:30 am and go straight to their classrooms. Parents may walk their students to class on the first day only. Staff and safety patrol will be out front to welcome your children to our school in the morning. Additional staff will be in the main hallways to assist students in getting to their classes. If you are driving your child to school, please use the car rider line on Fry Road that extends south on Center Village Drive. Please do NOT drop students off in the neighborhood cul-de-sacs - Use the car rider line. Car riders drop off at the main front door and gym doors. Students must get out of the vehicle on the right side of the vehicle. Parents should NOT get out of the car for any reason. Parents should NOT drop their students off in the daycare parking lot. Walkers and bike riders should enter the campus through the east or west side of the building. Students in 4th and 5th grade should use the sidewalks to the portables. Please use all crosswalks and lock bikes to bike racks. Buses drop off in front of the gym doors.
Dismissal Tag Identification System & Transportation Tag
Dismissal and Transportation Tags are essential to a safe and efficient daily dismissal. Tags should be kept on your student’s backpack and in your vehicle at all times. At RAE, we assign every StingRAE family a specific identification number which is the same for all of their children. At Meet the Teacher Night on August 12, parents will receive the parent tags with the family number in their youngest child’s classroom. The number is printed on two dismissal tags for your cars’ rear view mirror and the students’ backpack tag. Returning students should bring their plastic backpack sleeve the first day of school to be updated and new families will receive backpack sleeves on the first day of school from their homeroom teacher. There are occasions, such as inclement weather, when you may submit a Change of Transportation form switching your child to car rider from their regular dismissal plan and the parent car tag will be required to pick up in the car line. There is a charge for replacement of dismissal backpack tags/sleeve, if lost. If you do not receive a dismissal tag at the beginning of the year, contact the front office.
Hang your dismissal tag from your rearview mirror when you are in the car rider pick-up line. Children will be dismissed according to your location in the car rider line. Please do not cut in line as your child will not be called to wait for you. Once your child is loaded into your vehicle, exit through the Peek Road exit.
2024-2025 Dismissal Procedures
In the afternoon, we dismiss bus riders and walkers/bikers before dismissing car riders. School buses load in front of the gym and cafeteria. Parents will wait outside the playground gates closest to the rock walls on the west side or near the bike racks on the east side to pick up walkers/bikers. Pre-K, Kinder, and 1st grade students must be picked up at the west gates by parents or older siblings w/ matching tag numbers.
Once our buses leave the school grounds, car riders are dismissed. Car riders must line up on the south side of Center Village Dr. and turn right on Fry Rd. Cars may not come across through the light at Center Village Dr. and Fry Rd. as your car rider tag will not be recorded. While waiting in the extended car rider line, please put on your hazard lights. Car riders are dismissed from the gym doors. There are painted numbers on the sidewalk to serve as “loading stations”. Once you are directed to a specific #, you must stop at that # to pick up your student. Parents are not permitted to park their cars and walk into the gym or front office to pick up their children during dismissal time. See link for map for car rider line.
In the event of “severe” weather, we will send communication via our campus Blackboard system and dismiss our walkers and bikers last. You must submit a “Change of Transportation” for your child by 1:30 pm if you want them to dismiss a different way than usual due to weather. We will use our Blackboard communication system to text you when we will begin dismissal at the walker/biker locations.
Please keep tag on backpack

Please email a copy of your student’s updated immunization record to AmandaBoteler@KatyISD.org For any questions, please send her an email.
In KISD elementary schools, hearing and vision screens are routinely done for grades PK, K, 1, 3, 5, and new students entering KISD. Spinal screenings are routinely done for 5th grade girls (You can read about this here: KISD Spinal Screening Letter). Acanthosis Nigricans check is routinely done for 3rd grade students (You can read about this here: Acanthosis Nigricans). All screenings begin in the fall.
If you have any concerns about your child's vision, hearing, or concerns about curvatures in their spines, please contact me. If you do not want your child screened, you must present documentation to the campus nurse prior to September 1st as stated in the Student Handbook. If you are not contacted once screenings are complete, your child has passed the screenings. 🙂 I'm happy to help if you have any questions or concerns.
