Around the Ranch
January 26, 2025
The Principal's Corner
We hope that you have been able to stay warm this week! As Winter continues, we look forward to cooler weather instead of the stifling heat of Florida!
During the months of January and February, we will begin to plan for next year. We will hold Course Selection Night on Wednesday, January 29th and we will be reviewing course cards and other information with families and underclassmen students. Parents and Guardians, we ask that you work with your child on selecting courses that they can take next year that will challenge them. It is important that everyone understands that the classes students select dictate our master schedule for next year. The time to make selections and changes is now. We anticipate that we will exceed our enrollment again next year and making changes in the Fall when we return will prove difficult. Choose wisely!
#Excellence is the foundation of #MustangNation and we are #HereForExcellence! We are looking forward to each of you doing your best each and every day to contribute! You can expect weekly newsletters to keep you up to date as to what is happening at JWMHS around the ranch, as well as a weekly JWMHS Call on Sunday night around 6:30PM. A good way of staying up to date on school information is to visit our website at https://jwmhs.pasco.k12.fl.us/ and follow us on Twitter and Instagram (both @JWMHS), as well as like our Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/jwmitchellhighschool! From there you can find several sources of information that will keep you informed of all the happenings at JW Mitchell High School.
Please read the Highlights from the JWMHS Weekly Call for the Week of November 3rd that is linked below for a complete transcript of information that will help you this week.
We will strive to provide the best education possible for your child. If at any time during the school year you feel the need to contact me, please email me at jschultz@pasco.k12.fl.us or call (727) 774-9202.
We hope that you have a great week as we celebrate our 25th year of Mustang Excellence!
Go Mustangs!

JWMHS Success Plan for 2024-2025
Below is the JWMHS Success Plan for the 2024-2025 School Year. We have reviewed this with our School Advisory Council and our faculty and staff use this as a guiding document when working with curriculum and data.
JWMHS School Data for the 2023-2024 School Year
Each year, the State of Florida Department of Education provides data to schools based on testing and graduation data. Below is the data for JWMHS. Of note, the Graduation and Acceleration rates are a year behind and are for the Class of 2023. For comparison purposes, we have included data from previous years. Data is missing for the 2022-2023 school year because the test was a baseline benchmark setting year and there were not measures for Learning Gains.
JWMHS Advanced Placement Data for the 2023-2024 School Year
Below is the data for our Advanced Placement testing during the 2023-2024 school year.
Due to the new State of Florida law regarding school security (https://www.flsenate.gov/Session/Bill/2024/1473/?Tab=BillText), and feedback from our community, we are implementing a change to our arrival and dismissal traffic pattern. This change will affect parent access for JWMHS and SSMS. We have included a map that outlines the new traffic pattern for dropping off and picking up students for both JWMHS and SSMS. We believe these changes will allow us to move families in and out of campus in a safe, quick and efficient manner.
We have been given permission to move our Exceptional Education Pick Up/Drop Off Area to the east side of SSMS. This has opened up the front loop of SSMS. We will now be using this loop for Pick Up/Drop Off as well. This means that Pick Up and Drop Off are in front of SSMS and in the Red Car Loop. Middle School students can be dropped off and picked up at either lot in the designated areas. We would ask that High School Students be dropped off in the Red Car Loop in the designated areas for JWMHS. As a result, if you have students at both schools, please plan on dropping off in the Red Car Loop.
In order to reduce the traffic backups and delays that have occurred, we are asking that parents and guardians follow the outlined procedures moving forward:
- - When entering campus, please use the right lane to go to SSMS Car Loop OR go to the left lane to use the JWMHS/SSMS Shared Car Loop
- - No one will be able to go behind SSMS to drop off or pick up students.
- - Please only stop to drop off or pick up a student.
- - Students must be dropped off curbside only and NOT in the lane or parking lot.
- - Keep both Car Loops moving so that traffic can continue to flow efficiently.
- - Please do not park in the Red Parking Lot.
- - Please do not cut in line or in front of other cars to get ahead.
- - There are merge points; please show courtesy by allowing cars to merge especially in the SSMS Car Loop.
- - Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we continue to seek more efficient solutions.
You can find this information on our website here: https://tinyurl.com/JWMHSCarLoop
This will begin on Monday, August 26th. Again, we appreciate your patience and cooperation as we implement this new procedure.
