It was great to see all of our families at Back to School Night. We so appreciate the support our families provide our students and teachers!

This past week, we were excited to begin two of our special offerings thank you to the generosity of our parents, Music with Ms. Karie Seasock and PE with Coach Jose Suarez. Our kiddos love Ms. Karie and Coach Suarez and it is great to see our kiddos building their musical and physical talents and abilities while having a great experience.

In the week to come, we will begin Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) for our 4th through 6th Grade students with a new VAPA teaching team.

We are proud to continue the tradition of our Patriot Day Assembly and welcome all first responders and service members connected to our students. We would love to honor you at our assembly. Please see below for additional information.

6th Grade families, please save Thursday evening for an information night on the Outdoor Education trip. Steve Benz will be with us for a informative presentation on the experience.

This coming Saturday is our NC Angels Night. If last year is any indication, it should be a fun event!

HARD WORK - “Failing to prepare is preparing to fail.”

Preparing for Success means you must work hard. Are you preparing to Succeed or preparing to fail? If you are looking for the easy way, a short cut or trick you are preparing to fail because success requires old-fashioned hard work. Remember: Only you know if you are working as hard as you can.

At the end of each month, students will be nominated by their teachers and receive principal recognition for their dedicated efforts.

On Wednesday morning, September 11th at 8:30am, Nohl Canyon is holding our Patriot Day Assembly recognizing our heroes, First Responders and military service members and those who sacrificed the greatest sacrifice on September 11, 2001.

This is a closed assembly (students and staff only) except for the invitation to family members who are first responders and/or retired/active armed services as well as the parents of students performing in the assembly. If you are a first responder and/or armed services and would like to attend, please complete the following Google form: Patriot Day Assembly Invitation Form. Please feel free to wear your uniform and service dress or any combination of which you are comfortable to allow us to honor you.

We also welcome the families of all assembly performers. Please fill out the link for the Patriot Day Assembly Invitation Form linked above so we can plan on your attendance. For the Profile question you may select any of the three choices that apply.

After the ceremony on Wednesday, the yearbook group photo will be taken of our troop members. Please have your child wear their scout uniform to school! We ask our military service members and first responders to remain for the group photo.

All Students are allowed to wear any Red, White, or Blue on Assembly Day!

If you were not able to make it to Registration Day for Pictures - Do not worry - Make-up pictures will be held on October 1st.

Nohl Canyon uses a "Staggered" Start and dismissal to provide some relief with traffic. Supervision in front of school begins at 7:45 am. After dismissal, supervision ends at 2:40 pm. All students need to be picked up by 2:40 pm.

If you are interested in helping with our student drop-off or pick-up, we always welcome volunteers. Work as many or as few days as you are able, morning and/or afternoon. All helpers welcome! Stop by and talk with us in the morning or afternoon or let our Front office staff know if you are interested.

Thank you for making our parking lot procedures during drop-off and pick-up a safe and efficient machine. We serve a large number of vehicles in a short period of time.

Thank you for your continued help with a few critical items:

• Supervision is provided 15 minutes before the start of school and 15 minutes after student release. Any earlier drop-off or pick-up needs should contact CARES if added supervision is needed.
• Please remember our Lower lot is Staff Only Parking. The lower entrance on Nohl Canyon RD is ENTRANCE ONLY in the Afternoon for Middle Lane traffic going to park in the FAR lot. Two-way use of this entrance presents a significant hazard to entering cars and pedestrian traffic.
• Please be kind to our parking lot volunteers. They make the whole thing work.
• Please ask your kiddos to walk when in front of school. Running children in the pick up area presents several hazards. Safety is our first priority.
• Trinity School Parking Lot is CLOSED for drop-off and pick-up parking.

• Parents, with respect to Trinity Pre-School and their families, we are not allowing Nohl Canyon families to park in the Trinity parking lot. Please follow this guideline and support us in keeping a positive community relationship with Trinity School. Trinity will often allow us to use their lot for special events but should not be used for drop-off or pick-up.
• Please remain clear of the Trinity lawn areas. Trinity lawns should not be used for student waiting for drop-off or pick-up. Students should always be picked up from our school site. If students are still here after 2:40pm, we bring them behind our school gates into our QUAD area for safety until parent pick-up. Please do not have your students wait at the Trinity site for pick-up.
• Please be sure to use crosswalks when crossing all major roads. Students being dropped off on Nohl Canyon Rd. and then proceeding across the street, presents a significant hazard to those students.
• Keep in mind, the Nohl Canyon Rd. entrance to our parking area is only to be used during afternoon pick-up and is limited to Middle Lane traffic that is pulling all the way through the lot to park in the back school lot.

Tops - Nohl Canyon Uniform shirts are to be worn each day. NC Spirit shirts are allowed throughout the week, along with scheduled themed days (Wednesday = College day). Nohl Canyon allows Free Dress on the final Friday of each month. Tops should be of a size to allow for freedom of movement to accommodate physical education and active, safe play with no undergarments showing.

Bottoms - Uniform bottoms are to be any type* of solid bottoms with no holes, stripes, or patterns. Colors are Black, Blue, Khaki, uniform plaid. Shorts should be of Bermuda style to help protect skin during active play. Bottoms should be of a size to allow for freedom of movement to accommodate physical education and active, safe play with no undergarments showing.

*Sweatpants not allowed

Shoes - Shoes should be closed toe with non-slip soles and allow for safe freedom of movement to accommodate physical education and active, safe play. Crocs are not allowed due to slip and support concerns during active play.

School Uniform Policy

Nohl Canyon is beginning to see more students carrying their own cell phones. Please discuss with your child the guidelines for cell phones/communication devices (watches) while at school:

1) NO CELL from BELL to BELL - cell phones need to be turned OFF and stored in students backpack from first bell to dismissal bell.

2) Students who need to contact parents/guardians are expected to come to the front office to make the phone call.

3) Students who do not follow the guidelines:

1st occurrence: warning - expected to place phone back in backpack

2nd occurrence: cell phone confiscated - Parent Pick-up in office

Jog-a-thon 2024 is coming November 1st. Get excited! Please keep a lookout for our first flyer coming home in Wednesday folders.

The Jog-a-thon is NCSA’s primary fundraiser, which will fund many of the programs that we sponsor at the school including Art Masters, Music, PE, and Technology. We are committed to supporting the programs, and need everyone’s support in order to get there. Every donation goes directly back to the school.

NCSA has reserved the Right Field MVP section on Saturday, September 14 at 6:38pm with fireworks following the game.

Discounted tickets are $30 each with a portion of sales going towards NCSA General Fundraising.

We have a limited number of reserved seats and need to provide our final headcount in late August.

It is first come, first served so please get your ticket orders in as quickly as possible. You may reserve and buy your tickets via CheddarUp, Cash, or Check paid to NCSA.

The KIDS CORNER section of the newsletter will be a place to highlight our Roadrunner Students succeeding in outside activities. Nohl Canyon has a wide range of students in a variety of activities; Dance, Gymnastics, Equestrian, Cheer, Karate, Tennis, Baseball, Basketball, Football, Hockey..plus many more. If you would like to highlight your child, please send Mr. Strickland a photo and description of your child to be highlighted.

Milena is on the competitive swim team - Anaheim Aquatics Association and this August she competed in OC championship swim event and won gold for a freestyle relay and silver for a butterfly 25 yard. Way to go Milena!

Kole is preparing for the upcoming soccer season with the Raptors. Kole also enjoys playing competitive football, basketball, and baseball. Way to go Kole. Fight On!

Nohl Canyon Girl Scouts Ava, Camille, Elizabeth, Emi and Rylee helped distribute over 100 Meals on Wheels lunches and groceries at the Brea Senior Center. Fantastic work girls!
