PORTER NAMED 4th BEST VIRGINIA MIDDLE SCHOOL!
U.S. News & World Report has named Porter Traditional School the fourth-best middle school in Virginia. The ranking highlights the school’s academic achievements in mathematics and reading, setting it apart from other middle schools in the state.
The annual rankings are based on a comprehensive analysis of performance indicators, including mathematics and reading proficiency. U.S. News & World Report evaluates schools by comparing students’ performance on state assessments to its modeled expectations. This model accounts for various factors to determine how effectively a school is supporting its students' academic growth.

BE PREPARED FOR INCLEMENT WEATHER
Winter is just around the corner...be prepared for school closings. When bad weather or other emergency situations occur, it may be necessary for PWCS to modify normal operations by canceling school, delay opening, closing schools early, or moving to virtual/remote learning.
Here are a few tips to make sure you are ready for when the decision is made:
- Know where to get the INFORMATION: www.pwcs.edu/about_us/closings
- Know what the EMERGENCY CODES mean (Code Red, Code Orange, etc): www.pwcs.edu/about_us/closings/codes
- HAVE A PLAN for when it happens: Do you need a sitter if school is canceled? Who picks the kids up from early school closing? Does the school have a current contact phone number for you?
For additional important information about inclement weather and possible school closings, please visit our website at: https://porter.pwcs.edu/news/inclement_weather
KNOW WHAT "CODE ORANGE" MEANS FOR YOUR STUDENT
PWCS implements CODE ORANGE DAYS when weather conditions are marginal and impact road or sidewalk safety conditions, but are not so severe as to cause substantial impacts. CODE ORANGE DAYS will be used as a VIRTUAL LEARNING DAY for students to work synchronously with their teachers.
CODE ORANGE may also be used in lieu of a delayed opening. PWCS will continue to have “Code Red” days (closing all schools and operations) for significant weather impacts.
For more CODE ORANGE information and what it means for Porter students, please use this link: https://porter.pwcs.edu/code_orange_day
