-formal accusation for defendent
-defendent does not have to be present
-trial date set

-discovering states evidence
-victims and witnesses will be contacted
-may change plea to guilty at any time

-case goes to trial

-Sentencing is determined

-appeal
-defendent may appeal after the sentencing
