Curtis Chronicles
April 1, 2024
Welcome from Curtis Principal, Sonya Pitcock
Cougar families,
It’s been a great couple of weeks after spring break and our year is flying by! We are excited to see all the celebrations of our students! We had a great turnout at our Community Engagement Night with our CMS students representing us well. We had our science fair winners recognized at the school board meeting last week! We had student celebrations in classes last week where teachers were able to recognize their hard work and improvements! Our band students went to their UIL contest and did great! Our last track meet is this week and our track students have had some great success this year too! Lots of great things going on!
Today is the last day to sign and turn in the SOLAR ECLIPSE permission slip for your child to go outside and view the solar eclipse. We have safety goggles provided by The Perot Museum for all students and plans to make sure students see the exciting astronomical event. If you have any questions about the permission slip, please contact your child’s science teachers. All permission slips are on teacher’s canvas pages and in this newsletter as well.
April is our STAAR testing month, so please help us follow the state rules and get our students tested by having them here on the STAAR testing dates. We will not have visitors or lunch drop offs on those testing dates due to altered schedules and secure testing environments. We appreciate your help with this! Those dates are:
April 16 – STAAR Reading 7th and 8th
April 18 – STAAR Social Studies 8th only
April 24 – STAAR Science 8th only
April 30 – STAAR Math 7th and 8th AND Algebra EOC
Final exams for this semester will be the week of May 20-23. Final exams are not allowed to be given early by district policy. There are not exceptions to those policies. If a student misses their exam, a zero will be entered for their grade and they will have 10 days to make up the exams they miss. We will post the final exam schedule for when each test will be on our webpage.
Spring Pictures will be on Thursday, May 9th and information will come directly to you about ordering pictures closer to that date.
Our last dance will be on May 10 hosted by PTA and we look forward to a fun night with our students celebrating a great year! Students have to be in good behavior standing to attend that dance, so remind your kids to keep up their good work making good decisions at school!
Have a wonderful week!
Sincerely,
Sonya Pitcock

We need help promoting and getting the word out about the Wellness Fair coming up on Saturday, April 6 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
There are going to be some great presentations relating to mental and emotional health, yoga and breathing demonstrations, a provider and vendor fair, and free food for everyone! We also have childcare available for younger kids.
We are asking for registrations so that we have a count for food and planning but it is not required. We would love our community to get some valuable information and resources.
I am attaching a flyer. Please distribute it to your local PTAs and post it on your social media.
Also, we need help from parents and high school kids for the event. Please see the sign-up below:
