Dryden Band standouts Kai Grabowski, Levi Fitchett, and Eliniah Fitchett were recently chosen to rub elbows with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra through the DSO's Middle School Honor Day program.
The students were nominated by Mr. Sudduth, who stated: "It was a very special opportunity for some of our middle school musicians. They got to experience playing music in the Detroit Symphony Orchestra Hall with other standout Junior High students from southeast Michigan. The exceptional orchestra members from the DSO joined in and played alongside them, even offering advice and wisdom to the students!"
Eighth grader Levi Fitchett reflected, "I had a ton of fun and a great time. One thing that I enjoyed a lot was the building itself; when you first walked in, you went straight to the orchestra hall. I've never been before and was genuinely impressed with how cool it looked. We also got to eat lunch in the Paradise Lounge (which was beautiful) and eat dinner in the same locker rooms the DSO musicians got ready in. When it came to rehearsal, there were professional musicians for each section to help anybody if they were stuck on a piece of music. Mr. Berry and other percussion mentors gave me lots of good advice and tips that I had never heard before. During breaks, we got to see DSO musicians perform and ask them questions. Finally, when we got to perform our concert at the end of the night, playing on the DSO stage was really cool."
