SMS Newsletter First Week 2024
South Campus Traffic
If you have ever driven on the South Campus in the morning or afternoon you see the heavy traffic we have. Three schools sharing grounds is already a challenge and Highway N brings about different challenges daily. We work very hard to get our families and teenage drivers off Highway N as quickly as possible. Every driver can help by following our planned traffic flow and pulling forward as much as possible during drop off and pick up. Safety is our priority.
Community Agencies and Opt Out Information
Throughout the duration of the academic year, the Wentzville School District partners with community agencies that specialize in providing students, families, and educators with preventative education. Agency presenters are credentialed, coordinated through the District, and under the supervision of building administrators. Presentation topics are targeted toward specific grade levels. All students will participate in each program unless you choose to opt your child out of the lesson(s).
Additional information pertaining to the details of the specific lessons (including topics to be discussed) is listed on the opt-out form. If you are interested in opting your student(s) out of presentation(s), please click the appropriate link(s) below.
If you have additional questions, please reach out directly to your student’s guidance counselor.
SMS Times
Parents, we have shared with our students that our staff is contracted to begin their work day at 7:15 a.m., which is the time our campus officially opens. Please know that if you are dropping your child off before that time they are unsupervised.
South Middle School Open House
We look forward to having SMS parents visit our Open House night which is September 5. Due to our large student enrollment, our evening is broken down by grade levels. This evening is set up as an open house, giving you a chance to meet your child's teachers and see their classrooms. Our staff will be very busy this evening and will not be able to discuss individual student progress or needs. However, a meeting at another time can be arranged with teachers or communications through email or phone calls would work, too. Soon your child's teachers will email you more information about the evening. As a reminder, this event is for parents only.
The time listed below shows when the grade levels will run their Open House:
6th Grade 5:30-6:05 p.m.
7th Grade 6:10-6:45 p.m.
8th Grade 6:50-7:25 p.m.
High School Football
High school football is right around the corner. In the Wentzville School District any student younger than high school is required to be with a parent. Also this year, pets, bags, any ball, or play items will not be allowed into the Timberland games. Any middle school student not sitting with their parents will need to remain in the roped off area by the North endzone set aside by Timberland for middle school students. Elementary students should stay with their parents. There is no re-entry if you leave the game.
Meeting with Staff
Please understand that during a school day our time and focus is with our students. If you do need to meet with a South Middle staff member we ask that you schedule an appointment as opposed to showing up without an appointment expecting to meet with a staff member. You can set up an appointment by sending the staff member an email and arranging a time with them directly. Thank you.
FOCUS
If you have received communication regarding Focus and need to complete the RUP documents for your child(ren), please do so as soon as possible. If you are having issues with accessing these documents you can contact our main office at (636) 327-3928 for assistance. All students need to have the RUP completed by a parent in order to maintain access to the internet and use of their Chromebook for this school year.
