Message from Dr. Reams
Randolph Families,
On Monday, we will conduct a lockdown drill. At Goochland County Public Schools, student and staff safety is our top priority. When a safety concern arises, we may modify our standard operating procedures, following the Standard Response Protocol (SRP) and collaborating closely with the Goochland County Sheriff’s Office and Goochland County Fire and Rescue as needed to ensure everyone’s safety. We’re sharing these SRP directives so that parents are familiar with the terms in case they receive an email or text alert from the school:
Secure: Outside doors are locked, outside activities are relocated indoors to limit exposure to outside risks, and classes continue as usual.
Hold: Hallways are temporarily cleared, classroom doors are locked, and instruction continues.
Lockdown: Instruction halts, lights are turned off, and students remain out of sight to prevent visibility and noise.
Evacuate: Students are moved to a designated safe location in response to a hazard or emergency.
Shelter: This is used during weather-related events like tornadoes or earthquakes, with strategies based on the specific situation (e.g., moving to hallways or rooms with fewer windows).
By following these protocols and working with local emergency responders, we ensure that GCPS remains a safe and secure learning environment every day. Our exercise on Monday is only a drill.

We hope everyone is enjoying hearing about the fun activities and discussions that the APEX team and the RES faculty have been doing with the kids this week!
