Principal Getugi's Message
Dear Leasure Families,
I hope you are enjoying your long weekend and staying warm despite the forecasted snowy weather conditions. As a friendly reminder, school will be closed on Monday, January 20th, 2025, in observance of Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
As we look ahead to Tuesday, January 21st, the weather forecast predicts extremely cold conditions, with temperatures dropping to single-digit lows. If these conditions lead to the possibility of school closures, delayed openings, or a pivot to remote learning, we will communicate any updates promptly through our usual channels. Our staff and students are well prepared to transition to remote learning or asynchronous learning, should a decision be made to do so. If you have not yet signed the district’s Technology Agreement, we kindly ask that you do so as soon as possible to ensure your child’s continued access to instructional technology. ONLINE Technology Agreement form ENGLISH / ONLINE Technology Agreement form SPANISH.
The second marking period ends on January 24th, 2025, marking the midpoint of the school year where we review student progress. We will notify families of any students who are in danger of promotion, and this will also be noted on the report card. Please be reminded of the following important policies:
Wagner Law Requirement: Students must pass Language Arts and at least one other core subject to be promoted.
Attendance Requirement: State law mandates that students attend school at least 90% of the time. Falling below this threshold could place promotion in jeopardy.
For any student in danger of promotion, families will receive a letter outlining the specific areas of concern regarding their child’s progress.
Additionally, Parent-Teacher Conferences are scheduled for February 10th, 2025. Teachers will reach out to families to schedule these meetings to discuss student progress and next steps.
We have the following upcoming events:
01/20/25 – Schools and Offices Closed for Martin Luther King Jr. Day
01/22/25 – Spaghetti & Bingo Night (PTA Meeting & Event) Please come out and support the PTA and for a fun-filled time. This event is scheduled 5:30-7:0pm
01/23/25 – DeSSA Social Studies Testing (Grade 5)
01/24/25 – End of Marking Period 2
01/27/25 – Schools Closed for Grading Day
Please continue to support the 2025 Spread the Word – Inclusion campaign, promoting kindness, acceptance, and inclusion for all. The t-shirts cost $7 and are accepting cash payments. If you would like to order a campaign t-shirt, please find the order form linked here: Spread The Word Campaign

Warm Regards,
Principal Getugi
