Head Teacher's Message
I am delighted to announce that the RTS Head Students for 2024-2025 are: Harry and Sophia S. It was a close vote and all candidates put forward compelling arguments and campaigns during the hustings. Well done to Harry and Sophia, we look forward to you representing the school for the year ahead.
On Monday we welcomed our new Year 7 cohort to RTS for their Transition Day. They were extremely excited and enthusiastic with many comments about starting now, not in September. The students were put into their new tutor groups and it was great at break time to see students mixing together and making new friends, not just gravitating back to their primary school friends - the wonderful mix of colourful Year 6 leaver's hoodies was lovely to see. Mabel, the school dog, was on hand to make sure that they lined up correctly - and to try and sniff out any free food!
We also enjoyed our annual whole school Sports Day this week where all students head offsite to Osterley Athletics Track. This is a mammoth feat which is expertly and efficiently organised by the Sports Department every year. Nearly every member of staff, across all departments, is involved and it really is a fantastic day - thankfully it was held on Thursday in sunshine and not Friday in the rain!
There are some photos below - and a fantastic reel can be seen on our social media accounts.
These large scale events have been run alongside normal timetables and GCSE Drama and Geography coursework elements for Year 10.
After a rest over the weekend we look forward to seeing you on Tuesday evening for our Creative Arts Showcase & Summer Fair.
~Ms K Dooley | Head Teacher
Excellence through Endeavour
South West London Science and Technology Challenge Day
A group of 13 Year 8 students took part in South West London Science and Technology Challenge Day held at Richmond Upon Thames College on Wednesday 26 June. Our enthusiastic scientists displayed immense pleasure and pride in their collaboration with students from a large variety of local schools. RTS students served as excellent ambassadors through the demonstration of exemplary dedication to problem solving, resilience, innovation and thinking out of the box.
The workshops focused on real life STEM applications such as medical diagnostics, robotics, Forensic science and 3D construction amongst others. All participants excelled in every facet of the challenges presented to them and were left ever more enthused and passionate about pursuing STEM careers.
NPL Water Rocket Challenge
Last week, students from Year 9 attended NPL’s Water Rocket Challenge 2024. The challenge is to land an air pressurised rocket, using water as a propellant, exactly 70 m from launch point, three times, with extra points for flight duration. By all accounts it was a great success and NPL have reported that there were over 500 attendees joining them as part of the 42 school teams, 26 evening teams and 40 teams/individuals taking part in their 'build your own rocket' workshop. The event raised over £2,000 for local scouts.
RTS Sports Day
What a day! The weather was with us for this year's sports day - sunny, but windy! 600 students boarded coaches and headed off to Osterley Athletics Track, accompanied by nearly every single member of staff - across all departments. It truly is a whole school effort.
Our Year 10 Sports Leaders were also heavily involved in running the event - in what was their last RTS Sports Day. They set a fantastic example for the younger year groups.
Amongst the traditional events of javelin, high jump, long jump, shot put and sprint, we had vortex - and the ever popular staff relay race! The competition was fierce but Mr Marimuth, Mr Novi, Mr Glossop and Mr Nunn brought home the win for Shakespeare.
On return to school there was a BBQ and prize giving.
More updates will be shared on our social media pages, so please do keep an eye out.
RTS Summer Fair & Creative Arts Showcase
There will be a creative arts showcase with music and art projects as well as food, drink, fun events and house stalls.
We will be running a second hand book stall raising money for the school, if you have any books you are willing to donate please ask your child to bring them in and drop them to Ms Nockolds in the library.
