Principal's Message
Dear Sandyston Community,

October is packed with school spirit! Take a look at the photos below to see how we Stomped Out Bullying during our Week of Respect. Up next is Red Ribbon Week, where we’ll come together to promote healthy choices and stand against substance abuse. Don’t forget to check out the flyer for all the exciting spirit week activities!
Don't forget to get your pumpkins ready for our annual Pumpkin Decorating Contest! Details in the flyer below. Pumpkins due Monday, October 28.
This is a reminder that for all dismissal or afternoon pickup changes, families must fill out the Transportation Change Form. Please avoid emailing office staff directly, as they may be unavailable. The transportation form is the only official way to communicate changes in your child's pickup arrangements. Thank you for your cooperation in ensuring a smooth process for everyone.

Halloween Costume Guidelines
Halloween costumes should be school-appropriate.
Avoid excessively scary costumes as they might frighten our younger students.
Costumes should not represent violence; no blood or gore.
Toy weapons of any kind are not allowed.
Children may not wear costume masks that block vision or hide identities.
Please check your child's costume for safety. Ensure it is not too long and does not create a tripping hazard.
We ask that adults visiting the school adhere to all of these guidelines as well.

Get ready—the Scholastic Book Fair is coming to our school! This is a great opportunity to connect
with your child over the thrill of bringing home new books to dive into again and again. Studies show that kids read more when they choose books for themselves. And fostering a love of independent reading leads to a wide variety of benefits—including academic success and improved mental health. Here’s everything you need to know about the Book Fair:
- Dates: Week of October 21-25 during school hours
- Location: In the lobby outside the all purpose room/gym
- Family Event schedule: After school purchases on October 22 and 24
- There’s even more info on our school’s Book Fair homepage: https://bookfairs.scholastic.com/bf/sandystonwalpackschool
While you’re there, set up a Book Fair eWallet, the digital payment account that allows your child to
shop for books at the Fair without cash. Then share your eWallet link so friends and extended family can add funds. When you fund an eWallet, you’ll have the opportunity to contribute to a giving initiative called Share the Fair. Your contributions directly support our students who need help buying books from the Fair.
Second grade works on their beanstalk towers in Technology class. Students were given only paper, tape and a paper plate to create the strongest tower they could!
Thank you to the Sandyston Fire Department for our annual Fire Prevention Assembly. Students got to enjoy a conversation with local firefighters and then visit the fire truck in person.
Fifth graders design and draw their own cave drawings in social studies.
You can find counselor Mr. Joe working with students inside and outside at SWS!
We had some wacky hairdos on our Week of Respect Wacky Hair day.
Fifth grade students learn and explore tech tools while designing their own emojis in Technology class.
Fourth grade students compare their visualization skills and details in an ELA writing activity.
Thank you to the many SWS students who are buddies for our preschool students. Your help in the mornings and afternoons makes a big difference!
