Tiger Nation
November 22, 2024
GHS Families,
At Gilbert High school, we are dedicated to fostering an environment where every student has the opportunity to thrive academically, socially, and emotionally. In pursuit of this goal, we want to inform you about our "No Cell Bell-to-Bell" Policy, a guideline designed to minimize distractions and maximize learning during instructional time.
Why This Policy?
The increasing prevalence of cell phones in classrooms has presented challenges to student engagement and collaboration. Research and experience show that unrestricted cell phone use can:
Hinder Student Engagement: The constant presence of cell phones divides attention, making it difficult for students to focus fully on lessons. This often results in missed opportunities to deeply understand and retain material.
Limit Collaboration: Classrooms thrive on interaction, discussion, and teamwork. When students are preoccupied with their devices, meaningful collaboration with peers is diminished, impacting the overall learning experience.
Reduce Productivity: Notifications, social media, and games are frequent distractions that pull students away from important tasks, undermining their ability to manage time effectively and stay on track.
By implementing the "No Cell Bell-to-Bell" policy, we aim to cultivate a classroom atmosphere that prioritizes active participation, encourages meaningful interactions, and helps students build essential skills for their future.
How It Works
During class time, students are expected to keep their cell phones out of sight and silenced. Teachers may permit the use of phones for specific educational purposes when appropriate, but personal use is strictly prohibited from the start of the bell to the end of the period.
We understand that cell phones play a significant role in our daily lives, including staying connected with family. If there is an urgent need to reach your child, please contact the school office, and we will promptly assist.
How You Can Support
We ask for your partnership in reinforcing this policy at home by:
Encouraging your child to prioritize their education and view the classroom as a space for growth.
Discussing the importance of minimizing distractions and the long-term benefits of focused learning.
Helping them develop healthy habits around technology use, including setting boundaries during non-instructional time.
Together, we can create an environment where our students feel empowered to achieve their fullest potential, free from unnecessary distractions. Thank you for your continued support and understanding as we work toward this shared vision.
If you have any questions or concerns regarding this policy, please do not hesitate to reach out
Warm regards,
Lucas Blackburn
