Mr. Goetz's Corner
Dear Families of Deerfield,
It is amazing how fast time is flying! It is hard to believe that we are coming to the end of April already. Hopefully all of our Deerfield friends were able to enjoy their day off yesterday because of the power outage.
M-Step testing has begun and I am so proud of our students that have worked really hard this week. More testing will continue next week so please be sure that when your student is testing, they get a good nights sleep and a good breakfast (or remind them to eat breakfast at school).
This week we have had some issues with parent drop-off in the mornings. Please see below for important reminders regarding dropping off your students.
We are looking forward to Autism Acceptance Spirit Week next week! Don't forget to send your student with their favorite hat on Monday to start the spirit week. On Monday, students are also able to bring a stuffed animal to school for $1 as celebration of Earth Day.
As we look forward to next school year, if you have requests or concerns about class placements for next year please reach out to me by email by the end of the day today! No promises can be made but I will consider all requests.
Have a wonderful weekend!
Mr. Goetz

Important Student Drop-off Reminders!
For students that are being dropped off in the morning:
- Dropping off in front of the school is for buses only. Drop off your student in the parent drop off loop at the back of the school or park in the parking lot and walk them all the way to the front door.
- The front row of parking spaces are for handicapped vehicles only. Please use the main parking lot for all other parking.
- If the final bell has rung at 8:32 AM you must walk your child into the main office and sign them in.
M-Step Testing
The M-STEP will measure student knowledge of Michigan’s high academic standards in English Language Arts (ELA), Mathematics, Science, and Social Studies.
We all want your child’s state assessment experience to be as stress-free as possible. Your positive outlook and supportive manner going into these assessments also will influence your child’s experience.
The state has provided specific windows for our students to participate in these assessments. We have decided to spread the assessments over several days to allow for as many classroom routines to continue normally. (Make up sessions or opportunities to finish may be held on different days).
We would very much appreciate it if you could do everything possible to have your child in attendance on these days, make sure they are well-rested and have had a good, well-balanced breakfast. Also, on testing days, please keep cell phones and electronic watches at home. This ensures the integrity of the testing process. We encourage you to view the preview test and sample items that are available online at https://wbte.drcedirect.com/MI/portals/mi/ott1, opened in a Google browser.
We are confident that our students will do well and our goal is to provide a positive testing experience. If you have questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the school.
Autism Acceptance Spirit Week - NEXT WEEK!
Staff Appreciation Flower Sales
This year for teacher appreciation week, we are selling carnations. It is a great and inexpensive way for your student to show their teachers and other staff members how much they appreciate them. A flyer was sent home today, but there is an extra one below for your convenience. All flower pre-orders are due by Friday, April 26th.
Students who pre-order flowers, will receive tags to take home on Thursday, May 2nd, in order to personalize and return to school. On Monday, May 6th, students will pick out their flowers and put their tags on them before delivering them to whichever staff members they would like to recognize.
Those who do not pre-order will have a chance to buy flowers on Tuesday, May 7th, and Wednesday, May 8th. Quantities are limited though, so we may sell out. We highly encourage pre ordering flowers!
Thank you for showing appreciation to our amazing and dedicated Deerfield staff members!

Butter Braid Fundraiser
We are excited to bring you our latest fundraiser! We sold Butter Braids last year, and we had nothing but rave reviews from those who tried the products. These delicious items are only available through school fundraisers, so don't delay and order today! All students who sell 5 or more items will be entered into a raffle for a $15 Target gift card.
All orders must be submitted by Monday, April 22nd. No late orders will be accepted. You may submit your order using the paper order form sent home with your student (a digital copy can also be found below), or you can set up a personal sales site online by clicking the link below. If you need to pay by check, please make checks payable to Deerfield Elementary PTO. Thank you for your support and participation!

Deerfield Read-a-thon
Thank you to all who participated in our Deerfield Read-a-thon! If you would like to donate still, you may do so until Tuesday, April 23rd. Your student will receive 15% back of their individual donations to shop in the online prize shop. The online prize shop is only open until Thursday, April 25th, so make sure your student selects their prizes before that date. All prizes will be sent to Deerfield to be passed out at a later date. Thank you again for such a successful fundraiser! Deerfield rocks!
Spring Spirit Wear Sale
We are excited to announce that our spring spirit wear sale has begun! There are many Deerfield items available. Be sure to look through the whole webpage! Some items have the option to come in different colors and/or logos, so be sure to choose which one you want before adding it to your online cart. We are also offering some purple and gold Avondale gear that feature a Deerfield Falcon logo. These items will be especially useful to our 5th grade Falcons moving on to middle school next year. Items will be delivered to Deerfield before the end of the school year. The online shop closes on April 28, 2024, so be sure to place your order by then.

Flower Helpers Needed
We are looking for volunteers to help with flower sales. We need parents/guardians to help with the sale of flowers, and to help students select flowers and place tags on them. It really allows the process to run more smoothly if we have help. If you can only come for part of the time, that works. Please click on the link below to volunteer. Thank you for your time!

Art Fest Help Needed
Our Deerfield Falcons are looking forward to showcasing their art work at Art Fest on Thursday, May 16th. We are looking for helpers to donate some time to turn Deerfield into an art gallery for this evening event. If you are able to help decorate the school with our Falcon's art work, please use the Signup Genius link below. If you cannot come for the entire time slot, that is ok. Any time that you can provide is greatly appreciated. Thank you for your help!
