Strong Start Guide-Learning Coaches

We are here for you! You know that your kids have something special inside them. We know it too. At WVVA, we are excited to collaborate to spark that unique special something. Together, we will help your child reach their true personal potential. Let's have an incredible year!

Week of Welcome begins August 12 and ends August 16.

Please join us for several opportunities to meet the staff and learn more about WVVA.

Your child will also hear directly from their teachers so watch for information coming through email.

At WVVA, our Learning Coaches are important partners in education. Learning Coach support is important for student success and growth.

Some tips for Learning Coach success:

• Check and respond to your email each day
• Talk to your student about their live class and coursework. Post your child's class schedule by their computer and also where you can see it. Offer help if needed.
• If you have questions or concerns, reach out to your student's teacher.
• Be present for your student. Assist then with having their materials and books ready for class.
• Make sure your email and phone number on file are up to date.
• If you need help, just ask- we are here for you!

Strong Start is a national initiative that every Stride/K12 school hosts the first official week of the school year.

During Strong Start, student and learning coaches work with staff to attend a live orientation, complete the online Orientation course, meet the teachers and staff, and develop their plan for success.

Your child will follow this modified schedule during the week. All student sessions are mandatory. Links to sessions will be found in Class Connect. Regular classes and coursework will begin on August 26.

We will follow a modified schedule during Strong Start Week.

• Monday, August 19- students will log in at 9am to complete an online orientation with their teacher and complete the online learning modules in their Plan (due Friday, August 23)
• Tuesday, August 20 and Wednesday, August 21- students will log in and complete STAR360 benchmark testing.
• Thursday, August 24 and Friday, August 25- makeup days as needed, students are required to attend the live classes on their schedule unless marked "optional."

Please remember to check your email for updates from your student's teacher.

Students will begin regular coursework and class times on August 26.

Learning Coaches need to fill out the Handbook Acknowledgement Form and bookmark the handbook link for easier access. Please make sure to complete these activities during Strong Start Week.

Students are expected to begin school starting August 19, 2024 at 9 am by attending all Orientation sessions and completing the Online Learning Course.

*Students waiting on a school laptop will need to implement a back up plan until it arrives.
