RBHS BRIDGE Communication
Rock Bridge High School Newsletter: March 22, 2024
Mission: Rock Bridge High School is a community in which ALL students and staff inspire each other to become lifelong learners.
Rock Bridge High School Families,
When we return from Spring Break, we will have less than eight weeks of school before summer break, and the remainder of the year will move quickly! I want to encourage all families to use Spring Break as a moment to recharge and prepare for our push to the finish. With only eight weeks left to demonstrate your learning from this semester, every moment will count. Attending school every day you are physically able will ensure you have the best possible academic outcome of the 2024 school year.

Attendance Update
This year we have a goal that 87% of our students are present at school 90% of the time. Our collective percentage of students who have achieved 90% attendance as of March 21st is 84.1% compared to 82.1% the previous year at the same time. We are excited to report that this is an a 2% increase from the prior year! In the chart below, you can see the attendance data broken down by grade level comparing last year and this year at the same time.
Achieving this goal will require a partnership between RBHS and our families. We hope that we can count on you to help us achieve our 2023-2024 Attendance Goal. Please discuss this openly with your family and help us stress the importance of attending school every day one is able. We know that being present during instruction is one of the most important keys to academic success.
Math and ELA Tutoring
Use this link to access the ESSER tutoring sign up form.
Beginning April 2, 2024, through early May, Rock Bridge students who wish to take advantage of after-school tutoring through the ESSER program and those who need to spend time working on their online classes will have access to a bus. Students will not receive door to door transportation. Instead, they will ride the bus to one of four centralized locations. The intent is to get them to a stop near their neighborhood.

2024 EOC Testing at RBHS
We have some very important testing that will impact all 9th, 10th, and 11th graders in the months of April and May. At the high school level in CPS, all 9th graders take the Government End of Course Exam (EOC), all students enrolled in Algebra 1 take the Algebra 1 EOC, all 10th graders take the Biology & English 10 EOCs, all 11th graders take the ACT (see below) and a combination of 9-12th graders take the Algebra 2 EOC. The Algebra 2 EOC is only taken by high school students who have not taken the Algebra 1 EOC by the time they are in Algebra 2.
Our student performance on these exams is factored into the state's Annual Progress Report (APR) score earned by our district. This is the state's equivalent of a report card for a school district. Student performance on these exams are not factored into the grade they receive in the course that aligns with the exam. These exams are high stakes for our school district and should be treated as such. Here is a link to our RBHS January "APR explained" video.
Below is our current RBHS End of Course Exam schedule.
- English 10: April 18 & 19
- Government: April 25 & 26
- Biology: April 29 & 30
- Algebra 1 & 2: April 29 & 30 and May 1 & 2
Consistent student attendance is imperative for success on EOCs. We will be working to minimize student disruptions to the scheduled exams during this class period and ask for your assistance during these tests.
Our hope is that as a community, we can help motivate all our students to perform their absolute best on these exams knowing they are very important for our community as a whole and not high stakes for their current course grades. All Rock Bridge teachers teaching the corresponding courses will be dedicating time in class to help prepare for the test format and discuss the importance that students try their best. Please help us by talking with your student about these courses, EOCs, and the conversations they are having in their classes surrounding this topic.
ACT is April 9th for Juniors
Attention all Rock Bridge Junior Families,
This is a reminder that on Tuesday, April 9th Rock Bridge will be giving the ACT to all Juniors. Please help out by encouraging your 11th grader to get good rest leading up to the 9th and eat breakfast before coming to school on this day.

2024 RBHS Teacher of the Year Award Nomination
Each year we select a Rock Bridge teacher for recognition as the Teacher of the Year. In my past few years as principal, I’ve only sent the nomination form to seniors. This year, I’ve decided to send it to staff as well. As a reminder, our 2023 Teacher of the Year was Mr. Jon Myers. The teacher ultimately selected will be surprised with this recognition at the Flashback Assembly on May 3rd. If you know of a colleague who is worthy of the title "Teacher of the Year", please fill out the form below to nominate them for this honor. Nominations are due by Friday April 1st at 4:00 pm.
Senior Information
If your student did not pick up Jostens announcements at the meeting, they are available in the Activities Office.
