As we move into the final stretch of the school year, Caldwell ISD is proud to celebrate one of our strongest years in teacher retention. At the recent board meeting, the school board approved teacher contracts for the upcoming year, reinforcing our commitment to supporting and retaining our incredible educators. We are grateful for the dedication of our staff and look forward to building on this momentum to continue making Caldwell ISD a great place to teach and learn.

March 24, 2025 Board Brief
The Board meeting was called to order at 6:00 PM followed by the pledge and prayer, led by Mike Cook.
Recognize Students & Staff
Dr. James Barton, Caldwell ISD Superintendent, recognized Parker Pride and Alison Krueger, who were selected as Caldwell ISD’s “April Students of the Month.” Additionally, he recognized Blair Holt as the “April Employee of the Month.”
Coach Witherwax, CISD Athletic Director, in addition to Coach Rene Cantu and Coach Alysia Escalante, recognized the following athletic accomplishments:

Trustees Governance Camp Report
Various members of the Board of Trustees gave reports on the annual Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Governance Camp that they attended in March, highlighting speakers and/or breakout sessions that they found beneficial.

Enrollment Report:
The enrollment of Caldwell ISD is currently 1,896 students.
Informational Reports
Program Spotlight:
Mrs. Supak highlighted the Caldwell High School Welding Program, which has successfully certified 24 students with the AWS D9.1 Welding Certification during the 2024-2025 school year.
Finance Reports:
Heather Escalante, CISD Deputy Superintendent, presented the February Financial Reports. The full report can be viewed HERE.
New Business (Action Items)
Consider and Approve TASB Policy Update 124:
Dr. Barton presented the Texas Association of School Boards (TASB) Policy 124 Update, noting this was a routine update of language. The update was unanimously approved as presented.
Consider and Approve Math Adoption:
The board unanimously approved the adoption of Bluebonnet Learning as the new standardized math curriculum for grades K-8 and Algebra 1, replacing the district’s 2014 curriculum. A task force of teachers and administrators selected the program based on state approval, grade-level alignment, and its emphasis on critical thinking.
Consider and Approve Budget Amendment:
The board approved a $165,000 budget amendment for the 13.15-acre land purchase near the intermediate school, covering the $160,500 purchase price and closing costs.
Consent Agenda
Meeting Minutes:
The Board of Trustees unanimously approved the meeting minutes. Additionally, the board unanimously approved the resolution delegating signing authority to the Superintendent for the purchase of the land referenced above.
The Board went into Executive Session at 6:57 PM. After the closed session, the Board of Trustees voted to approve the Teacher contracts as discussed in the closed session.
The Board Meeting adjourned at 7:57 PM.

About Caldwell ISD
Caldwell Independent School District was officially established as a public school district in 1923 and serves the northern and western portions of Burleson County. In 1990, Caldwell ISD became the largest school district in the county that serves just under 2,000 students and is comprised of four campuses: Caldwell Elementary (PK - 3rd), Caldwell Intermediate (4th - 6th), Caldwell Junior High School (7th - 8th), and Caldwell High School (9th -12th). The district also has a District Alternative Education Program and an Alternative Center of Education. Caldwell ISD is the home of the Hornets. The official colors are Texas orange and white. Texas UIL classifies Caldwell ISD Hornets as a 4A district.
