Monty Money Winners!
Monty's Corner: November is Here!
Tigers,
Some how it is already November! We have had a wonderful first two months of school filled with learning new things, making new friends and learning the expectations of being a student. The students and staff have been working hard using our new Language Arts Curriculum Really Great Reading and Wordsmith. Our teachers are working with this curriculum to help students learn and apply strategies for reading and writing. So take the time to ask them about Heart Words, Phonemes, Root words and more! We are all very proud of the growth of our students and we want them to be able to show off that knowledge at home!
Thank you to all the wonderful Parent/Guardians who came to help out with the Halloween celebrations yesterday and thank you to those that attended the parade and cheered on our students. It is so special to have these opportunities to have our families experience the happiness of Monteith. Don't forget that Tuesday November 5th there is NO SCHOOL for students.

College Game Day at Monteith!
Can I bring in birthday treats for my child’s birthday?
We celebrate birthdays at Monteith by giving each student a birthday book and bookmark during their birthday month.
Due to the large number of student allergies, we no longer can allow any type of birthday cakes, cupcakes or cookies in the elementary schools (except for teacher scheduled celebrations) . Please save the present celebrations for home parties. If students want to bring in a small goodie bag of non-edible items ( Ex: pop-its, pencils, etc.) that is allowed but not necessary. If you do send in something with your child it needs to be for the whole class not just a couple students.
Kindness matters at Monteith and Always!

Our Boomerang award winners this week are: Mrs. Peklo (LRC) and Mrs. Stackpoole (Library/Media)
Mrs. Peklo is an amazing person and teacher and we all see her working hard daily to meet the needs of all her students. School can be challenging and Mrs. Peklo gives non stop support to each and every student she works with! She goes out of her way to meet her student's where they are at and gives them experiences and interactions that are building their skills and helping them to connect positively to school. Thank you for all you do, Mrs. Peklo!
Mrs. Stackpoole is a ray of sunshine! No matter what she hasdoing or going through , she is smiling, happy and here for the kids and ready to teach with enthusiasm. The kids adore her and love going to library every time. She fosters a love of reading in each and every child. Thank you Mrs. Stackpoole!

This week we played a Halloween Memory/Matching game. Students would put on their Witcher wizard hat (cone) and try to be the first team to find all of their game pieces.
Art News
First grade students studied the bright cut-out shapes of the artist Henri Matisse. Students learned about organic, abstract, and non-representational shapes. Students first drew, then cut out their own shapes focusing on primary, secondary, warm and cool, and light and dark colors. Students also learned about variety, composition, and pattern in design, using large, medium and small shapes.
