A Note from the Principal
Canal View Families,
Happy Friday! Even though it's officially spring, the cold weather and snow has certainly extended some winter blues around Canal View. We're seeing more behaviors popping up around the building, and it's clear that everyone needs a break!
As we all know, movement and fresh air are both critical in supporting mental health. We would love your help in creating more of these opportunities with your children at home. Less screen time, more play time. Keep prioritizing reading, too! We need to work together to model overall wellness for the kids. Remember... We're a village! Thank you for all you can do to ensure that your children are sleeping well, eating well, and moving their bodies.
With gratitude,
Denise Lemcke
Principal

The standards-based report card, distributed three times a year, is one part of the system used in Spencerport to report academic progress to families. The report cards are aligned to the New York State Next Generation Standards and list the essential skills students should learn in each subject at a particular grade level. It is important to note that the standards are end-of-grade expectations. For the first two report cards, students are evaluated on their progress toward the end of year grade level standards.
On the final report card in June, the score reflects their actual achievement in relation to the standards. The goal is for students to achieve 3s in June, indicating that the student has met grade level standards at the conclusion of the school year.

Construction on Campus
Solar Eclipse - Coming Soon!
On April 8, Rochester and surrounding areas will experience a once in a lifetime event - a total solar eclipse. The excitement about this is building at Canal View. Over the next few weeks students in all grades will be learning about the solar eclipse in STEAM lab. We encourage you to talk to your child about what they see in the sky, motions in space, and what makes a solar eclipse. Students will also be receiving a countdown calendar to use at home as you wait to experience this event. Although our district is closed that day, there are many local area activities you can check out with your family to make the most of this tremendous event.
