Washington - Caldwell Parent Update
Week of October 28, 2024
Message from our Principal
Hello Bulldog Families,
Wow! What a great turnout for the PTO sponsored Fall Fest on October 17th. The building was buzzing with kids and families. The costumes were great and the 8th grade games were a hit. Each year, the Middle School students, with the support of Mr. Thompson, Mrs. Bruton and Ms. Fields, develop their own carnival games for Fall Fest. This is not only a fun activity for students, but they also learn skills such as planning, development and collaboration with classmates. These are foundational skills that our students will carry into other aspects of life. Thank you to our teachers, students, staff, families and the Washington-Caldwell PTO for creating such a great event for families.
We hope you were able to attend your child’s conference over the past two days. The conversations that take place during conferences are a very important part of connecting home and school. Knowing we do not have school on October 24 and October 25, I hope you are able to spend some time with your child over the 4 day weekend.
Lastly, we want to inform families that we will be holding our first ALICE drill on Tuesday, October 29, at 10:00 a.m. This drill is part of our safety protocols for emergency situations. Weather permitting, this will be an evacuation drill. Staff have been working with students and the ALICE curriculum to prepare them for the drill. If you have any questions, please contact your child’s teacher or the office. Safety is our number 1 priority.
Sincerely,
Kevin

Library HELP WANTED!
Ms. Vogt is looking for volunteers that could come in on a regular basis to shelve library books each week. Please reach out to her at kvogt@washcald.com if you are interested. Essentially, this can be done any time during the week. It is a great job for anyone - parents, grandparents, high school students looking for volunteer hours, etc.... Please reach out to discuss it with Ms. Vogt.
Things You Can Do to Raise A Reader
Find the reading and writing in everyday things: Take the time to show your child ways that adults use reading and writing every day. Grocery lists, notes to the teacher, maps, and cooking all involve important reading and writing skills.
Student Pictures
Picture Retake Day
A picture retake day has been scheduled for Friday, November 1 in the am.
Lost & Found
Thank you for picking up items you recognize! Some things have been claimed but there are still some left! The Lost & Found is once again beginning to fill up. Check out the pictures to identify any of these pieces that may belong to your student. Any items that are not claimed will be donated at the end of the quarter. Have your students pick up the item or let us know what belongs to you!
New LEGO Club Format
We need to change the format of the ever popular LEGO Club - We have had an overwhelming number of students that want to join in the LEGO fun. Because of this we have divided LEGO Club nights by the first letter in the last name. Please see the flyer below for the day your student can attend LEGO Club. And as always, a paper note must be received the morning of LEGO Club.
