IMPORTANT LINKS
MHS IS AN INNOVATION CAREER PATHWAY SCHOOL
On April 3, 2024, the Healey-Driscoll Administration awarded new Innovation Career Pathway designations to 36 high schools. One of these schools is Maynard High School, which is now authorized to provide an Innovation Pathway in Computer Science. Congratulations to Mr. Mark Sinopoli, Computer Science Teacher, for his work to create this new program. Innovation Career Pathways provide students with applied learning experiences in high-demand industries. These experiences enable students to explore careers in high demand industries they may want to pursue, while also bolstering workforce pipelines to meet the needs of employers.
“One of DESE’s goals as an agency is to make sure that learning is relevant and tied to the real world,” said Department of Elementary and Secondary Education Acting Commissioner Russell D. Johnston. “Innovation Career Pathways do just that, helping students see the path that connects their learning today to their career in the future.”
A key component of Innovation Career Pathways is developing partnerships with local employers to foster these work-based learning experiences for students. The partnerships enable students to gain work experience and insight about whether the field is something they would like to pursue in college or a career after high school. If your business involves software development or web design, and you would like to get involved with the new Computer Science Innovation Career Pathway at Maynard High School, please contact Principal Elizabeth York at eyork@maynard.k12.ma.us. We will be looking for career speakers, job shadowing opportunities, and insight from the field.
MHS STUDENTS NEEDED FOR GERMAN EXCHANGE PROGRAM
Calling all students (and parents) interested in MHS's next German exchange! We are excited to continue our partnership with IGS Ingelheim, our partner school in Ingelheim Germany. The next MHS contingency will travel to Germany in 2025, and the group of students from Germany will visit Maynard in October of 2025. This is an impactful cultural exchange, with no requirements to speak German. The German students who will host and visit are their top English students. The exchange is supported by the US State Department and the German equivalent, to promote relationships between our two countries. Come to an informational meeting in Ms. Adams' classroom (B224/225) on April 25 at 6:00 pm. Contact Ms. Adams with any questions (jadams@maynard.k12.ma.us).
TRADES EXPO FIELD TRIP WAS A SUCCESS
Ten MHS students took part in the second annual Metro South/West Trades Expo on April 3 in Marlborough. The event was made possible by Youth Connections, a partner with Mass Hire, and many area high schools attended! Students got to meet with professionals in the trades, try some "hands on" activities, and learn more about the future of trades in this country".
THE MAYNARD MUSIC ASSOCIATION
The mission of the Maynard Music Association (MMA) is to promote, support, and advocate for exceptional music education for all Maynard High School and Fowler Middle School students.
BAY STATE SUMMER GAMES
Do you love sports? Do you want to play in the summer? Sophomore Siena Hesbach is a Bay State Games High School ambassador, and she is spreading the word about the opportunity to register for the Bay State Summer Games. Siena has participated in swimming and soccer, but there is also field hockey, baseball, archery, basketball, softball, track and field, weightlifting, and many more sports to interest students. This is the full program and registration link: baystategames.org.
The Bay State Summer Games is Massachusetts’ own Olympic-style athletic competition that has annually been held since 1982. Each year the Summer Games features 7,000 athletes competing in 30 sports. Athletes of all ages and abilities represent over 300 Massachusetts communities each year. The Summer Games annually take place during the month of July. The Summer Games consist of Showcase Sports, Individual Sports, and Team Sports. Tryouts for Showcase Sports are held during the month of June statewide, but individual and team sports are open to everyone who wants to play. Finals for all Summer Games competitions are held in the Metro Boston and Central Massachusetts areas.

MAYNARD HIGH SCHOOL FOOD PANTRY
A FOOD RESOURCE FOR OUR STUDENTS AND THEIR FAMILIES
In addition to all students getting free breakfast and lunch at school this year, Maynard High School offers a food pantry for any student who needs it. The pantry is located in the nurse’s office. This can be accessed by a student asking the nurse or their school counselor. Students may also take enough food and supplies for their families, if needed. If your student wants access to the pantry, please complete this Google Form.
FREE AND REDUCED LUNCH APPLICATIONS
Although all students can get one free breakfast and one free lunch at school, we still encourage any family who may qualify for free or reduced lunch to fill out the free/reduced lunch application. Qualifying for free/reduced lunch can also qualify students for:
- Fee waivers for college applications
- Standardized testing (SAT and/or) ACT fee waivers
- Fee waivers for the bus
- Fee waivers for the athletics/student activities fee
COMMUNITY RESOURCES
Parents and caregivers, are you caring for yourselves? It's important that you take the time to care for yourself, both to ensure you're not giving from an empty cup, but also to model self-care for our teens. And we don't need to wait until things get even more hectic than they are to start. Here are some tips to think about now: https://parentandteen.com/parents-who-care-for-themselves-prepare-teens-to-thrive/
